Hi!
I have a question. I was confirmed yesterday. In being confirmed I took the name of a saint. This morning when I woke up I really felt that I had picked the wrong saint. As I ended up going with one suddenly then I originally planned. My mom called the parish office, and the secretary said that she would change the name of my patron saint on record since it was just done yesterday. I am wondering if this can be done? And if so if it’s easy as that, if I can now look to the new saint as my patron instead of the one said in the ceremony?

Confirmation Saints are a pious practice, but, the selection is not required by Canon Law nor by the norms. You may select any patron, you may decide later you have a devotion to a different Saint.

SMD gave you a great answer on your other thread:

I don’t think it can be changed like that, though yes, you can have a devotion to any saint you want at any time. Perhaps @1ke can weigh in if she knows.

It’s all right Zakiya, don’t fret about it. You could even have both as your patrons. My patron saints are the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Michael the Archangel and St Anthony of Padua. My card has none of these names, but deep in my heart I have great love for them. During baptism I had limited knowledge and had picked Elizabeth Ann of Seton but as I came to learn our faith, I asked Our Lord to grant me the favour of being the Blessed Virgin Mary’s child. The whole of heaven roots for you!! and CONGRATULATIONS on your confirmation ☺️

No saint is ‘the wrong saint’. 🙂

If you feel drawn to a different saint, that’s ok. Pray to them, that they might pray for you to God. The saint whose name you took at confirmation won’t be offended. 😉

The saint’s name should not be change from the one recited by the bishop/priest as this was the sacred formula used during the rite and liturgy. That is your Confirmation name. To change the name is to create a record which is untrue. The rite and liturgy must be true and the records reflecting it must not be falsified.

I know that’s not what you want to hear. But it is correct. I’m sorry.
