I had learned that after my confirmation the venerables can’t be confirmation saints (mine was Ven. Pius XII) so, since the bishop didn’t say which Pius may I choose another Pius. I was going to choose Bl. Pius IX so would he have been my patron or would Ven. Pope Pius XII be my patron. Blesseds can be confirmation saints.

There are no rules about confirmation saints. Be at peace with your choice.

There are a number of saints named Pius…Saint Pius I, Saint Pius V, Blessed Pius IX, Saint Pius X. Padre Pio da Pietrelcina would be Saint Pius in English. Pope Pius XII canonised…as well as knew…Saint Pius X.

That said, there is no harm in choosing that saint’s name to honor Eugenio Pacelli, since he had chosen it for himself. Conversely, when Rabbi Zolli of Rome converted to Catholicism just after the war, he chose Eugenio as his own baptismal name to honor Pius XII who was, of course, very much alive at that time.

I remember when Cardinal Luciani was elected; he chose for his regnal name John Paul because both Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul VI had been so prominent in his life – John had appointed him Bishop and Paul had made him both Patriarch of Venice and Cardinal. He wanted to follow in the steps of both of them at the same time and there fore took both of heir names.

Yes to both of the above.
Don’t worry about it.
Choose Pius, Period.
I hope your Confirmation was joyous and beautiful.
