Confirmation Saint

My 13 yr old grand daughter is beginning her confirmation classes this year and has to pick a saint to write a paper on. I would like to give her some choices and wondered if any of ya’ll had some suggestions for me. 😃 👍 Thank you in advance - Karen in Dallas
 
What about St. Elizabeth of Hungary? She is the Patroness of the Homeless, nursing Services, and Charities. Even though she was born to wealth, being a princess, she cared for those who were less fortunate than her. She gave food to the poor and visited the sick.
Elizabeth is my Confirmation name and also my daughter’s. My daughter is expecting her first baby (a girl) in a few months and her middle name will be Elizabeth which was also my Mom’s middle name.
 
I just remembered another Saint who is not thought of very often but was my favorite when I was young (I’m old so forget things). Anyway, Maria Goretti is known as The Children’s Saint. She was almost 12 years old when she was murdered in 1902 so she is a saint of fairly recent times.
There are so many choices for your granddaughter to choose from. Hope she finds one that she can enjoy writing about.

I would first pray about it and also see what kind of characters/personality your grand daughter has and connect her with the Saint who also share these qualities - it will help her a lot and maybe by doing so, she would learn more about this particular saint and want to follow the Saint’s step.
 
a list of my favorite female saints: (in no particular order)

St Clare of Assisi
St Elisabeth
St Margaret
St Anne
St Mary
St Joan

oh, i guess the list goes on… but there’s some ideas at least:thumbsup:
 
My two oldest children were confirmed this past spring. They both picked saints that were in some way relevant to their aspirations or situation.

My daughter, who would love to be a book author and illustrator someday, chose St. Lucy (patroness of, amongst other things, authors and illustrators.)

My son, who has a severe speech impediment, chose St. Charles Borromeo, who himself overcame a speech impediment.

Side note: my son has apraxia, for which we could find no specific patron. The closest we found was a patron saint for stutterers, but his name was St. Drogo!!! Clearly he’s also the patron saint of hobbits…😃

Perhaps looking for a saint for is a patron of something she especially enjoys or hopes to do, or who overcame a difficulty that she can relate to??

PS One of my personal favorites, being in Opus Dei, is St. Josemaria Escriva, whom Pope John Paul II referred to as “the saint of the ordinary.”
 
i recommend saint philomena as well, but she died violently, that might be a bit much for a 13 year old. how about bernadette? or even the Blessed Mother herself? or even saint therese of lisiuex?

Youngest dd chose St. Cecilia because she loves music. While in Rome last year we visited St. Cecelia church in Trastavere. Hey maybe you can take your grand daughter to Rome to visit her patron church!! —KCT

That’s why I chose St. Cecilia as well. Only later did I find out that she is also an awesome prayer partner. 👍
 
she might want to begin with her baptismal saint, or with a saint who has qualities or did things she admires or aspires to. I chose Joan because I was into strong women as role models at that time, and she surely was counter-culture against women’s roles of her era.
