such the long process. when i am provided with verses such as: Acts 8:14–17, 9:17, 19:6 all i can conclude from those is that confirmation is quick and powerful move of the holy spirit into ones life/body. why is it that the catholic church makes the process a several month process?

You’re in the wrong forum. This is the philosophy forum. Philosophy is discussed here. Try the Apologetics forum. You’ll find your Huckleberry there.

Several months? Mine took two years.

Anyways, they just want you to be more than just familiar with the Catholic faith. Besides, it’s your choice on whether you want to be there or not… or at least, it’s supposed to be.

Just hang tight.

Because growth and conversion is a lifelong process. I’m guessing you’re fairly young if you think that “several months” is long at all. In fact, such basic preparation just gets you to the very introduction of the faith… IMHO it’s “foot in the door” kind of training so that you understand exactly what you’re committing to and don’t thereby fall into sacrilege due to lack of knowledge.

Yes I am young but in the verses in which this website provides me with to support the practice of confirmation the process is almost immediate. For example when the Ananias prayed for blind Saul all which was needed was them to lay their hands upon him and it continues to say “no sooner were the words out of his mouth than something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes” (The Message). To me that means that as soon as he was done speaking over Saul the healing and entering of the Holy Spirit occured

Healing and confirmation are two entirely separate things, however. Second, indwelling of the Holy Spirit is not a one time event. We receive graces of the Holy Spirit by participation in any of the sacraments… INCLUDING the sacrament of anointing of the sick (as we see here). Further, the entire RCIA process is about opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit. Since your RCIA director certainly can’t spark you blind and give you Divine revelations as God’s interaction with Saul did, you get to go about it the traditional way. 😛

First, welcome to the board.
Several points:
• Confirmation mirrors a Jewish tradition of Bar (& Bas) Mitzvah. The terms are modern inventions but the ceremonies existed in ancient times.
• Jews are (or were) trained from birth about their religion. Not just months.
Bar/Bas loosely translates to son/daughter. Mitzvah is a rule, teaching, or “Law”. At the age of reason, normally around 12 a Jewish boy/girl would undergo their Bar/Bas Mitzvah, meaning they were old enough and trained enough to become an adult member of the community. The saying during the Bar Mitzvah is “today I am a man”. So the Bar Mitzvah or Confirmation is an affirmation of not only age but also training. They pronounce that they are adult members of the community. Sons and daughters of the Law.
Remembering Scripture where Jesus is 12 years old and found at the Temple speaking to the Rabbis. This is the trip where Jesus would have received His Bar Mitzvah. Had He not been considered an adult member of the community, He would never have been allowed to address the Rabbis in this manner.
In ancient Israel, religion was a huge part of your life. You lived it on a daily basis. The months, even years, of training we today go thru would have seemed a joke to an ancient Jew.
My gripe with the training is not the time, but the substance we teach. It does not prepare a youth to defend his or her faith.
