Confirmation

Here’s my situation,
I was born a Catholic, both of my parents were, at the time, Catholic,
I received the sacraments of first communion and first confession and I was baptised, but for whatever reason I was never confirmed, now for along time I was an atheist, and then a presbyterian, but as of late I’ve been attending mass, going to confession, etc. Is this wrong? Should I be confirmed before taking Eucharist? Although I have talked to my parishes priest and he ok’ed it, I’m still not sure.

I would take the advice of a live priest over that of virtual strangers on a forum.

That said, while you should do what you must to be confirmed, you don’t have to be confirmed to continue receiving Communion.

You said you are back to frequenting the Sacrament of Confession.

The next time you go, just ask the priest.

Definately go to your priest, be honest, and tell him your situation. Since you recieved baptism, first penance and first Holy communion, he may still allow you to take comunion and confession, that would be his decision.

Most priest would want you to take RCIA to learn your faith before giving you confirmation.

you need ask no one else, you already have your answer. Presumably you have been to confession and now can receive communion. do ask about classes for Confirmation for adults which are beginning soon in most parishes.

Your priest OK’d it because you do not need to be confirmed to receive the Eucharist.

However, as an adult Catholic, you should pursue being confirmed. The reason you should be confirmed is not in order to receive the Eucharist (because you can already do that without being confirmed), but because confirmation gives you the strength you need to live your faith as a Catholic.

RCIA programs usually welcome Catholics who have not yet been confirmed. Your parish is probably beginning to put notices in your bulletin about RCIA classes forming now to begin in the Fall. Contact your parish office or talk to your priest about attending RCIA so you can be confirmed at the Easter Vigil in the Spring. God Bless.

I would recommend speaking to your parish priest to be confirmed. Most parishes have excellent RCIA programs especially for adults who just need Confirmation. I received the Eucharist from the time I had my first Communion at age 8 till 17 when I was confirmed, that is nothing new. Speak to your pastor about signing up for the class so you can receive the sacrament at Easter Vigil.
