I’m attending Confirmation classes, which I’m really happy about. However, there is a requirement that those who attend are not allowed to miss more than three classes without good reason. I was just wondering if missing more than three without good reason would somehow invalidate the sacrament of Confirmation. Any answers? Also, am I correct in thinking that if I received the sacrament of Confirmation in a state of mortal sin, it would be valid, however I would not receive the graces accompanying it until I returned to a state of grace? Pretty sure I’m right, but I figure I may as well ask anyway.

No it wouldn’t, because this is only a requirement of your program. More likely you would not be given the sacrament and asked to come back next year and complete the program.

As for receiving not in a state of grace, I understand if you did this (knowingly) that would in itself be a sin (sacrilege essentially).

If there are going to be classes you need to be present.
If our kids miss that many, they don’t get confirmed, Simple as as that.
Your formation is a priority, or should be. As should the state of your soul. Why would one go to a Confirmation Mass to be Confirmed and receive Eucharist KNOWING they had a mortal sin on their soul?
It sounds like the person missed too many classes and did not receive the proper instruction for being well disposed to receiving a Sacrament and the grace that accompanies it. Go to confession regularly.

Confirmation is not a membership card.
It’s a gift and also a responsibility. It means you are serious about the faith.
Hope you turn things around, prayers said.

Thanks for your responses. I was just wondering because I wasn’t sure if I had already missed two days (I know I missed one, just because I wasn’t feeling particularly up to it due to some cold-like symptoms), and wanted to know if the Confirmation would be valid if I missed three days.

If its a matter of illness, if explained to the organisers I imagine there may be more leniency than if you simply don’t show up. But I wouldn’t recommend being confirmed without proper preparation whether you are allowed to or not. In any event, there is no issue on validity of the sacrament.
