Yesterday I bought Catholicism for Dummies and there is a lot more info in there than I’ve found in a number of other books. It shows the Confiteor as a regular part of the Mass and I didn’t see any reference to time of year. I wondered because we do it only, I think, during Lent?? or thereabouts, if at all, and I think it was in place of the Glory to God. I like it and wish we did it every time.

Is this liturgical abuse or is it allowed?

There are multiple options for how it is included… there can be the “I confess to Almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters”, or another formula like “Lord Jesus, you have come to call sinners, Lord have mercy… Christ have mercy… Lord have mercy” or the Greek (Kyrie Eleison). There may be another option as well.

agreed! 😃

The Cenfiteor (I confess) is one of I believe 3 options for that portion of Mass.

I wish it was said more often in my parish. I don’t remember the last time.

AH, okay…we certainly do that every week. I’m on the lookout for liturgical abuses, but compared to some places I read about here, I guess my parish is pretty straight. Now if only they would do a little Latin like EWTN masses…

Latin!!!

I think there are a lot of us here that would be happy to settle for a proper mass in english. Latin would just be icing on the cake after that.

By the way, great book isn’t it.

Yes, in fact I was really struck by the discussion of Sloth…things I never realized before, about how it leads to indifference, boredom and despair eventually. There is more psychological truth in that than in a hundred self-help books. But I wonder what their discussions are based on exactly?

I don’t know. But you’ve got me curious now. I may have to go back and re-read it once I’m done with my current book.
