A background: I am over 18. I live with my parents. I enjoy vaping. I always vape outside. When I asked my parents if I could vape indoors, my mother told me she would be fine with me vaping in my room. My father, on the other hand, said he doesn’t want me to vape in the house. This is a bit confusing to me, so I just vape outside on the deck and follow my father’s rules.

But this is what is confusing: If one parent is fine with you doing something, and the other isn’t who’s rules do you follow? I would assume you follow the one who is against it, but I could be wrong.

I would err on the side of caution and if one of your parents says no, then don’t do it, regardless of what the other parent says.

You did the right thing. Those types of things require unanimous consent or you go with the “no”.

I suggest you talk to your doctor about vaping. You are only 18. Don’t get bad habits that have health consequences. I would suggest you should not be vaping at all.

Thanks for the replies! I figured that if one parent told me not to vape in the house then it would be best to follow their rules and vape outside instead. 🙂

As a dad to a 19 year old and a 15 year old, any time that rules have to be set up for something like this we have a family discussion. All sides get to make their points and then a mutual decision is made.
