Hey all, I recently started my conformation class and we have to pick a saint…I’ve been thinking about either Saint Benedict or St Adjutor the patron saint of swimmers…does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

I would suggest looking through any book that has a list of Saints/Martyrs. Read some of their stories and pick one who you feel you can relate to. Mine was St. Paul the Apostle. But I do look up to Saint Pio as far as holiness is concerned. If you do some reading on it, you will find the right one. God bless you!

Pax Christi!

St. Theodore the Written-upon. It’s such a cool name.

God bless.

“Confirmation stoles”? “Clergy robes”? White cassocks? Black “baptismal robes”? LOLROFLMAO. You’ve -got- to be kidding me. Any Catholic shopping here should be euthanized immediately.

I don’t know anything about St. Adjutor, but Benedict is an excellent choice. I agree…read about some of them and pick one you relate to. Congratulations on your upcoming Confirmation!

My Confirmation records were lost in a disaster in the city I was baptized in. When I was in my 40’s I made my vows as a Secular Franciscan . Two weeks later I was Confirmed (due to no records). I wanted a name of a Franciscan Saint, but was also very devoted to the Blessed Virgin. So, I chose the name “Mary Elizabeth”. St. Elizabeth of Hungary was a wonderful Secular Franciscan. Now I live in Arkansas, and guess what the name of my Parish is??? “St. Elizabeth of Hungary”!!!😃

My middle name is “Louise”, so when I was in the Convent, I was called “Mary Louise”, but since we were bilingual by our Rule, I was also called “Maria Luisa”. How beautiful! The only Saint matching my first name “Judith” is St. Jude, and that didn’t feel right. I wanted Blessed Mary and a Franciscan.🙂

We didn’t wear robes for Confirmation, just a nice dress or pant suit. I chose a dress, one of my nice ones in blue!

P.S. When I was Baptized at age 9 in October, the Secretary of the Cathedral where I received the Sacrament put my birthdate down correctly as “Nov. 18” but put the same year as my Baptism, so my records show I was Baptized and received First Communion one month prior to my birth, according to those records. The Cathedral Secretary refused to change it too!😃

That is extremely odd s/he refused to correct it. In my diocese, the policies and procedures are clear that the date must be recorded “As it appears on the birth certificate” and changes can be made with authenticating evidence. I would insist on the change and provide appropriate documentation, going over the secretary’s head if necessary.

Since the Secretary was (probably) in her 40’s, it was 1950, and I was only 9 years old, the Secretary is no longer there. I didn’t even discover it until the 1990’s, when I wrote to them to change the information & sent a copy of my Birth Certificate as well as my correct name (which they also had wrong!)

The Diocesan Office basically told me “that’s what’s on there & that’s how it will stay!”

By the way, I was Baptized, and received First Communion in Tulsa, OK in 1950, but was born in Indiana in 1941. The Baptismal Certificate shows I was born a month later in TULSA!

It depends–is there a saint whose life really speaks to you? I think it’s a wonderful thing–it’s the only time in most of our lives that we get to choose our own name. My sister uses hers as her actual middle name now. I chose my grandma’s name: Josepha–so my saint is, of course, St. Joseph!👍
