Confraternity Bible find

So we went to St. Vincent de Paul thrift store today to buy a couch (found one for $40!).

I like to compare various bible translations and have been wanting a Confraternity Bible for awhile, but they seem pretty rare. Well, I turned around and saw this lovely leather bible on a shelf just after saying I was ready to go home. When I saw it was that translation, I sure held it close! Since it is a bible, St. Vincent’s only takes donations (it was on a 50 cent rack though), so I dropped my remaining ones and change in the donation jar.

I read from it in the car on the way home. It is in perfect condition, no marks (perhaps not even read! so sad!). Happy I rescued this bible from a life languishing on a shelf, I took in home. On closer inspection, it is a 1941 1st edition. It probably would be worth some money to someone, but I’m going to use it for what it is meant for: reading and prayer.

Just wanted to share my excitement!

I love that translation. I wish someone would make a nice leather pocket NT version. I have the little vinyl one but would love a leather edition.

I know! I told my priest about it yesterday, and my assumption that it is already blessed (since I didn’t actually “pay” for it…I just put money in their donation jar). He smiled and said it wouldn’t hurt to have him bless it anyway so I’ll take it to church with me tonight.

I really enjoy the style and even the headings (something I have disliked in some other translations).
