The Catholic Faith Defender Dipolog and Davao Chapter have the copies of Confraternity version of the bible.
In Mat. 16:18 the words “ONE HOLY CATHOLIC ROMAN CHURCH” are present. This Confraternity version of the bible is not tampered and it is ORIGINAL.

It is used by Catholic Faith Defenders of the Philippines as response on protestant SOLA Scriptura (Bible Only).

The Debate in the Philippines is not like in USA. Take the example of the debate between Karl Keating (Catholic Answer) VS Jose Ventilacion (Iglisia ni Cristo) catholic.com/thisrock/1990/9002fea1.asp
-as long as the word or a term CAN BE READ IN THE BIBLE (Even if it is wrong) in any versions on any bibles YOU ARE THE WINNER OF THE SAID DEBATE (they said).

Therefore on that debate: CATHOLIC FAITH DEFENDERS OF DAVAO vs. LOUD CRY MINISTRY OF SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH
-the winner is the CATHOLIC FAITH DEFENDERS

Our Confraternity Bible still doesn’t say that. I don’t know why one from the PI would. Do you have one? Maybe you could do like Church Militant and scan the verse and post it here for us to see? 🙂

No legitimate bible anywhere in any language contains the phrase in question. If you have one that does, trust me it has been tampered with. And by that I don’t mean someone added it in with red pencil. I mean if it appears in print on the page, the text was deliberately altered and published for polemical purposes. Anyone that thinks they can win an argument with Protestants by deliberately making spurious (not to mention laughably obvious) additions to a Catholic bible translation is seriously misguided.

If I’m reading this right, it sounds like religous debaters in the Philippines (on both sides) are OK with changing the words of Scripture and engaging in bullying tactics to win a debate. If this is, in fact, true, there is only a couple of things you can say about this:
  1. These are not really debates but actually free-for-alls and entertainment spectacles. They cannot be dignified with anything close to being called apologetics debates.
  2. Maybe this is accepted tactics and practice with these particular groups in the Philippines, but other Catholics living elsewhere have no control over that. It certainly isn’t the practice of more sophisticated apologists anywhere. As someone who is married to a native of the Philippines, I frankly find it embarassing and sad for everyone --Catholics and non-Catholics – involved.
 
Yeah, I think these people are all messed up.

The fact is that the case for the Catholic faith needs no such foolishness and contrivance. It’s right there in the Word of God without resorting to the same tricks as Martin Luther and others of twisting the Bible to fit agenda driven interpretations.
