I’m finally ready to say it and deal with it: I was abused as a child by my caregiver, my grandmother. For years I justified her behavior but I’ve hit a wall and I’m ready to call it what it was, neglect and emotional and physical abuse. I will not describe it here because I’m unwilling to expose this tenderness to refrains of “You call that abuse?” or “But she loved you!” I do need your help, though. I’m looking for Catholic resources for healing but whenever I Google “child abuse” and “Catholic” the listings are…well, you can imagine. Can anyone help me before I lose my nerve and put my head back in the sand about this? TIA.

Know that you are in my prayers. I pray especially that you find peace in Christ.

Greg Popcak is a Catholic therapist on Catholic radio and is the head of an over the phone counseling service. His website is exceptionalmarriages.com (i think), but he has therapists that are experienced in different areas. Check out his website and give him a call, he is wonderfully compassionate and could at least steer you in the right direction.
