Today I went to a large retailer of dinnerware, silverware etc. where I’ve previously shopped.

I was wandering around the showroom after I had placed my order and came across a large wall which had numerous newspaper/magazine articles about the founder of this business. First article I read explained how it was a ‘homosexual friendly’ business. That was enough to turn my stomach.

Looked at a few more articles/photos which showcased the homosexual founder with his boyfriend and the two children they adopted. Also had numerous photos with politicians (Democrats all, of course). Some articles explained how this homosexual gave large amounts of $ to politicians to help further homosexual rights.

That was enough for me. Returned to the showroom and told the sales clerk to cancel my order and have my name removed from their customer list. When she asked if there was a problem, I explained to her the fact that I was a Catholic and I was diametrically opposed to what the owner stood for and that I wasn’t going to patronize a business that I knew used its profits to promote evil.

Anyone else on here ever have to confront evil like this and how did you handle the situation?

congratulations for standing up for truth. I’ll give this more thought

That is a toughy. We are supposed to love the sinner and hate the sin. Still patronizing a business that is openly pushing for gay rights is a doozie. I personally would not go there. I am not sure if that falls in the Church’s teachings. I will try and do some research on this and find out the correct thing to do.

To me it goes with video stores that cater to family and then you discover the dirty room in the back. Pornography in a family oriented business is outrageous. It should not be allowed. Kids know what it is. When only adults can go back there to look at the movies, they have a good idea. These places are known for family entertainment, not the **** behind the curtain(if they have a curtain).

God Bless!

Oh yeah, I once had an account for an online community for writers… then, the moderator became a born-again Christian, said the website would have a “Christian slant,” and staged a suicide for his girlfriend.

I stood up to him for all three reasons–mainly for being unfair to the nonbelieving members (a rather large portion of the site)–and I closed my account. [True story, by the way. 😦 There *were a lot of nice people there.]

Huh… :ehh: I guess people have different perspectives on what’s evil. 🤷

Dear Blade: Many radio stations have a particular format, for example: country, talk, rock etc. One radio station in the LA area changed from a rock station to a country station over the commercial break. They lost at least some listeners. They have the right to change-- it is their station. The moderator of your group can do what he wants. He is the moderator. Leave and start a similar group.

Being a liar and professing to be a truth teller is evil. He obviously had a maturity/psychological problem when he staged the suicide. You were virtuous in challenging him. Anthony

This post made me laugh out loud. Your idea of confronting “evil” is two men in love with a child being supported by a business? I think applying the label “evil” to this situation is a bit over-exaggerating. I wish Christians would stop focusing on homosexuals and more on more serious issues…child abuse/pornography is one that truly makes me ill, human trafficking (very disturbing), all the kidnappings seen on television, I mean for pete’s sake that poor 8 year old girl in California was supposedly murdered by her Sunday school teacher! Homeless families are quite the tragedy as well, as are the way our teens are acting today (don’t even get me started on ‘sexting’ and why girls for some reason find it perfectly acceptable to send naked pictures of themselves all over school!). I just think that there is more real ‘evil’ out there that people say ‘is sad’ but don’t get NEARLY as riled up about, you know? I never see people protesting human trafficking, underground slavery, etc…this is just my opinion though. Not trying to say that homosexuality is ‘trivial’ but when I see an 8 year old girl on tv being found stuffed in a suitcase murdered, homosexuals seem so minor in comparison…

My confrontation with evil is truly chilling…

I studied abroad this past fall, and was able to visit Lithuania with my class (this country is known as a prime spot for human trafficking/sex slavery).

One night as my friends and I walked back from a restaurant, we had to go down a sketchy street, very dimly lit to get to our hotel (later learned the locals called it the “prostitute street”).

Of course there were some prostitutes standing around, but the one scene that will forever be burned into my memory was like this…on the other side of the street, where a light was burned out stood a girl, couldn’t see her face as she wore a gray hoodie with the hood up, shadowing her face. She was so thin and frail looking, her straw-colored hair hanging limply through her hood. She was slightly hunched over, tightly clutching herself. Two large men stood on either side of her, arms crossed.

It was so scary to see, and heart breaking. I couldn’t begin to imagine what sort of life that poor girl lived. It made me so grateful for what I have…

The next night, on that same street, a friend and I were walking back ahead of other people (she was really tired and didn’t want to walk back alone). Up ahead of us under a street lamp, we could see a shadowed figure standing off to the side. As we approached, this figure suddenly sprung in front of us, still shadowed. It appeared to be a muscular, bald man in a leather coat, we could still only see his silhouette. He raised his hands menacingly at us, taking a step toward us. It was the scariest moment of my life. We were ready to fight and flee (and prayed ALOT), and stood our ground (my friend isn’t exactly tiny, though she isnt super big either). He backed off. We got out of there as fast as we could. We could have easily been grabbed and never seen again. Such a horrifying thought, to be forced into sexual slavery.

If homosexuals are the biggest “evil” you have had to confront, I envy you. I still pray every night for the girls I know that are lured, kidnapped and forced into human trafficking. Human trafficking is one of the greatest evils I have seen, with millions of victims a year. Please say a prayer for these girls…it still breaks my heart to this day.

I will be forever haunted by the image of that girl standing on the street, guarded by two men and clinging to herself.

Mind the different perspectives. I was well-aware that he stood by his decision and I’m not very sour about my leave or his actions any longer. The point I was trying to make in telling you about that experience was the difference in what evil is, perceived by the person. I find no evil in homosexuality; the OP does. You or the OP find no evil in a rebellion *to *Christianity (as ironic as that sounds); I don’t like to use the word “evil,” but for the sake of countering (and for the safety of my account, therefore refraining from using my word), I’ll say that. 🤷 It’s all in opinion when you think about it. :hmmm:

Standing up for what you believe in is cool, but yikes! To call the opposing teams “evil” is going a little overboard.

Definition of Evil:

adj. 1. morally wrong; wicked 2. harmful; injurious

noun. 1. wickediness; sin 2. anything that causes harm, pain, etc

There are many things in this world that are done considered evil. Sin has varying degrees of evil. Still no matter what degree of evil or type of evil, it is still evil! We are to fight evil in as many ways as possible.

Whether it is homosexuals, or euthansia or porn at family video stores or child prostitutes in another country, we are bound by God’s laws to fight this evil. It is overwhelming and we can’t save everyone. We are just to do what we morally can do and the best that we can do.

We are supposed to help save souls. If there is not anything we can do physically, then earnest, faithfilled prayers are the next recourse available.

I want to tell you something that happened to me. When I was a teenager, I was locked up for running away repeatedly. Two girls and I were bored being there (it was max security), so we decided to make a pact with the devil. Why I don’t remember. We wrote the Our Father backwards, signed in blood and laughed about it. I was not religious at that time. That night while asleep in my cell, I woke suddenly. There was something or somebody in my cell. Now this is impossible because it was lock shut. It was so cold and it was utter darkness and the sense of evil was so strong. I was so scared. I thought I was dreaming. I kept closing my eyes and opening them and it was still there. I couldn’t move, I was paralyzed. I started to pray to God to release me from this! God listened and He took this evil out of my cell.

I have talked to several priests about this expierence. I know the power of the devil and his entourage very well. I know what evil, true unadulterated evil feels like. May know one ever go through that. We must confront evil on all levels with whatever tools God has made available to us.

God Bless!

We get so PC when we tell someone they shouldn’t say something is wrong or evil.

We, as Catholics, do not say that the people are evil, we love all the children of God.

We, as Catholics, must say that certain actions are wrong or evil exactly because we love the people who have fallen into these harmful actions. If your friend engaged in high risk activities like sharing needles while injecting drugs, wouldn’t you lovingly help them and tell them they are involved in wrong or evil that could result in their death?

The Church tells us:

“The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.” (CCC 2358).

"Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved." (CCC 2357).

The Church has always taught that a man and a woman are to have no sexual relations until married and that marriage is a permanent union between only one man and one woman.

Again, most will say it is unrealistic, out of touch and just plain mean-spirited, but studies show that those couples who do remain chaste prior to marriage have a much lower percentage of divorce. Sounds like the Church was right again.

 Always a relativist in the bunch…

I’m kinda torn on this one. According to the Church, gay people have all the same human dignity and rights as the rest of us do. We are to treat them with Christ’s love. Every person has a right to make a living and support their family. They also have the right to advocate for causes that are important to them.

However, this person is actively funding and spreading the activist gay agenda, which seeks to destroy traditional marriage. I can see not wanting to spend money in his store because it will end up in the pockets of radical gay activists.

I applaud your courage. If more people voted with their feet, retailers would take notice.

I agree with you. As I have heard it said–“Love the sinner, not the sin”!

When I stopped eating at KFC because PETA was organizing a boycott because of how they treat chickens, I just emailed them to let them know.

Same thing when I gave up Pepsi because pepsi was promoting “gay rights”, just sent an email.

When I stopped supporting Amnesty International because they decided that abortion is a human right, I wrote a letter explaining why they could no longer expect support from me.

I guess I find it easier to express in writing.

I cancelled my American Express Card some years back when I found out they were huge supporters of Planned Parenthood. I called the company and told them what I was doing and why. The young woman I spoke to was mystified. Don’t know if it did any good, but I did what I could. Maybe one person cancelling a credit card or an order for tableware doesn’t seem like much, but if enough of us boycott merchants it certainly makes a difference. Besides, similar tactics are often employed by the opposing side of the issue. You did exactly what I would have done.

I haven’t yet but many of us likely will in the near future. I hope we all handle ourselves as well as you did.👍

As long as homosexuals love each other then what they do is okay in the eyes of Christ.

Anal sex is practiced by some Catholic couples I suppose so anal sex is not wrong in and of itself. The important thing is that there is love between them.

Also, you did what you deemed you had to. That is great.

I know a gay man who is homosexual-- he is a good man in good standing with Christ. I have tried homosexuality although it is not for me because I prefer females.

Homosexuality should be tolerated. Again, although I don’t personally like it (and I’ve tried it!) and, actually, find it abhorrent, I tolerate it because God made us in his image and therefore if homosexuals have that proclivity then it was there by the creation of God.

Whether misunderstanding, or deliberate misrepresentation, of Christ’s Word—you couldn’t be more wrong.

Please demonstrate to me how it is charitable to egg people on in their sins—which will only lead to misery, torment and Hell.

How is that showing Love?

Please forgive my ignorance. I do not understand your post. What does it refer to?
