Confronting evil

The abuse of children is evil. Rape and murder are evil. Machine gun shooting pirates are evil. I even think Bernie Madoff is evil.

If we are concerned about genuine evil, it is easy to find. But not everything we personally dislike is really evil.

My focus for confronting evil is to actively oppose activities that hurt other human beings.

I believe it is not beneficial to condemn other adults private lives. If we would like them to change their ways, perhaps we might demonstrate a better way of life.

I think this is very well put. The one addition that I would make, however, is that in the OP this business owner had made a choice to publicize his private life by putting up articles on a bulletin board. Since they chose to let people know their private business, people have the right to choose if they wish to support his causes by making purchases in his store since he’s openly stated how he chooses to use his profits.

I was wandering around the showroom after I had placed my order and came across a large wall which had numerous newspaper/magazine articles about the founder of this business. First article I read explained how it was a ‘homosexual friendly’ business. That was enough to turn my stomach.

Looked at a few more articles/photos which showcased the homosexual founder with his boyfriend and the two children they adopted. Also had numerous photos with politicians (Democrats all, of course). That was enough for me. Returned to the showroom and told the sales clerk to cancel my order and have my name removed from their customer list. When she asked if there was a problem, I explained to her the fact that I was a Catholic and I was diametrically opposed to what the owner stood for and that I wasn’t going to patronize a business that I knew used its profits to promote evil.

Anyone else on here ever have to confront evil like this and how did you handle the situation?

This may be a stupid question, but how to find out about companies and what they support?
 
Not a stupid question by any means. The AFA (American Family Association) keeps fairly close tabs on such things.

They’re not specifically Catholic but they do support traditional values.
