I hope it was helpful to you tomshaikh. Actually, I’m pretty sure our Catholic faith says the soul does not die. The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes death as the separation of the soul from the body (any of you Catholics more knowledgeable than me [and that’s a lot]- if I’m making any errors here, feel free to jump in and correct me).

The Book of Revelation speaks of a second death (Revelation 20:14,15), which we call Hell, and the worst thing about Hell is that we’ll never see God if we end up there -ever ! That would be kind of a death of the soul even though it (the soul) continues to exist. My father once told me that the loss of one soul (loss meaning to Hell) is a greater tragedy than all of the wars combined throughout the history of humanity…that’s how much our Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to get to Heaven. God is the only one who knows the value and beauty of a human soul, because He put some of Himself into it “Let us create man in our image,after our likeness” (Genesis 1:26)

Hi There, I am also agree with your above paragraph. And my further question is about soul that after we die in about 100 years inshallah. Where will our soul goes after come out from our body.I know where it goes in Islam point of view but i wanna know about christianity what they says about this.

I can only tell you my personal opinion on this from what I hope is a Catholic perspective because I regret I’m not very educated in Islam and more than half my Catholic belief comes from experience rather than reading. Here is a true story:

I was having my hair cut by a lady - a Christian but not a Catholic, She is a friend who cut my hair for almost 25 years (there is much less to cut now). When I told her about dying and wanting to go to heaven, she said,“Come on now!! You know when we die we go to sleep until the last day.” I believe she was wrong but I did not tell her at that moment because she was holding the scissors right beside my left ear. I wanted to leave her boutique with two ears.

Catholics believe after death it will either be Heaven, Hell or Purgatory. This is for the soul. Purgatory is a place where certain souls which need to be purified must go before proceeding to Heaven. We see it as an instrument of God’s Mercy.

I think there is still some debate in Catholic circles on this next point, but my personal interpretation is: at the end of time we receive a glorified human body like the one Jesus had after his Resurrection. But the “last day” my barber talked about comes at the end of our earthly life. Each one of us will have this personal “last day” and when it comes, we (our soul) face judgement - Heaven, Hell or Purgatory.

As a Catholic I’m sure of the judgement part. In the Bible (Luke 23:42-43) we are told Jesus was crucified with two theives. the good thief (Catholic tradition says his name was Dismah) asked Jesus to remember him when he entered his kingdom and Jesus replied “Truly I say to you:this day you will be with me in paradise.” (Imagine: the same day he died the thief had the promise of going to heaven - that day!). A famous Catholic author- Bishop Fulton Sheen , when writing about Dismah says: " May we say that the good thief died still a thief…because he stole Heaven."

If I had no regard for my left ear, when my barber said, “Come on when we die we go to sleep until the last day”, I would have answered her this way: " Yes,I suppose so but don’t you think that Heaven will be rather empty with only God and Dismah there?"
