I took the Lord’s name in vain today, and need some help with understanding how the Lord grants us mercy and pardon. Here’s what happened, today at work there is the occasional customer who gets upset with the cleaning done on their vehicles (I work at a car wash). Their comments range from mild language to strong language depending on what the situation is. Regardless, I went on break with a coworker who had just started, and he was surprised about how disrespectful some of the customer’s could be. I ended up saying in our conversation “Yeah, the customer’s will say anything from Jesus Christ, >bad word< and what not.” I meant to separate these 2 words and I really surprised myself because I said them so close together. I am not proud of myself and I didn’t even realize what happened until about 5 seconds later. I wasn’t trying to use the Lord’s name in vain.
I’m confused now, between praying for forgiveness and confession. Jesus tells us to have faith and hope and if we believe then we shall receive. I feel as if my faith and hope is removed from my prayers for mercy when I feel the only way I can receive His mercy is through confession.
Am I in a state of mortal sin (I sincerely didn’t mean to use His name in vein)? Is praying for forgiveness not enough? Are their any scripture quotes about always having to go to confession every time we mess up?
I am not knocking confession, I love the sacrament but my church only holds it on Saturdays for one hour (when I work). I do not find myself able to go every time since I do not have a priest on call 24/7 for every thing. I would love to be able to participate in communion tomorrow since I am truly sorry. Thoughts??
