Confused about all the talk of Charity

Unfortunately the idea that speaking the truth is equal to uncharity is a strong one in modern society.

You make an excellent point. Charity does not mean we are always “nice” and inoffensive, in the sense that we should just bend over instead of standing up for the truth. That’s why Jesus cleaned out the temple…He was being charitable by standing up for righteousness and telling the money changers they were wrong to do business in the house of the Lord.

Unfortunately, our culture is so fanatical about “tolerance,” that people are afraid to speak up. We should speak the truth in love, but many are afraid to rock the boat and be accused of being hateful. Charity is loving through actions…Jesus’ actions in the temple and the washing of the disciples’ feet are excellent examples of this.

Many here bash Church Militant on their “presentation”, for not having “charity”, etc.

I have not thought them uncharitable, per se. I bash Church Militant for not telling the truth and for bearing false witness against their neighbor.

While there are some posters here who cry “uncharitable” when someone disagrees with them, I think we also have a lot of examples of posters who know a lot about canon law, scripture, etc… yet they have a terribly pompous and condescenting way of trying to convey their knowlege. Not to mention the frequent ad hominem attacks on those whom they perceive as inferior in knowledge. They’re not really standing up for the truth. They’re more concerned with being right. One recently got the 1,000 year suspension. Therein lies part of charitability problem…

This always reminds me of a memorable line said by a well-known speaker many years ago when I was still very young in the spirituality when he said,”You may have very gifted people in your parish but flawed in character.” Later as I began to be active in the Church, I realised how true it was.

that’s holy hatred,which means we should love Jesus more, heaven more, than earthly things in order for our salvation. detachments from persons and things ,its idols of the heart.

because he is the cause to lead many to sin and also ruin his own soul ,hell is more painful and we have to suffer for eternity.if a wicked man dies many good people are saved

Now I’m no expert, like those of you that talk about Church Militant’s lack of charity, but to me those seem like very frightening actions that will turn off non-Catholics. Making a scourge of cords and driving people out of the Temple??? Overturning tables??? Saying he did not come to bring peace, but a sword!!! So, to all you charity experts out there criticizing others for lacking in “charity”, what are we to make of this obscure Galilean, this Jesus of Nazareth?

sword is the word of god in Ep 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. which is to separate the good from the bad. Love with detachment ,with out obligation and love with discernment.

My opinion - I use to watch the Vortex frequently with my Men’s group which included 2 young priests and a few seminarians(former and present)There was something great about hearing the truth that Michael Voris had to say but it got to a point where he started ridiculing everyone he disagreed with. To us, his spirit of truthfulness morphed into one of mockery. It wasn’t uplifting or encouraging. It became like a Catholic carnival sideshow. Needless to say, our men’s group has switched to programs through EWTN, Bishop Barron and Deacon James Keating.

Even if your content is completely faithful, if the message is conveyed in a way that severely lacks charity, it isn’t really truth then. It’s just empty cold fact.

Nice. That’s a good deconstruction of a buzzword. I don’t like Church Militant because I personally find them a little annoying and unproductive. But this whole “charity-as-buzzword” is pretty annoying.
