Of course I address that in another post. This is in a liturgical setting though. That changes things. Well meaning people can still act innaproptiately. A properly trained EMHC would understand what’s wrong with it and why it may not be their place.

Sometimes, our Priest just gently caresses them- some EMHC’s/Acolytes do that too. Of course this is not any symbol of having power or anything that goes with blessing, it’s more about showing some kind of affection towards those people.

I was also instructed to say “Receive Jesus in your heart” without raising my hand as a priest would do.
I’m an EMHC and this is similar to what I was taught as well. “Receive the Lord Jesus in your heart”. Most priests also say this when you are not receiving communion. When I was younger though I remember that most of the priests would give blessings. I didn’t attend Mass often enough to pay attention to what the EMHCs said.

Forgive me, I did not start this thread to cause division- I used search function but I was sincerely unsure if those threads asked about EMHC blessing by sign of the Cross like Clergy does, or like it happens here. I’m not American so I was unsure if and which types of blessings are common and where. I also wanted to know sincere opinions and practices of EMHCs and because I do not want to bash any EMHCs I did not want to ask ones I know IRL as I believe it could cause confusion for them.

I already cleared up my mind on other stuff you named, perhaps beside hand holding as I am just not informed about it at all.

No need to be forgiven, I am glad to hear you tried searching. Most folks do not, hence the plethora of threads on similar subjects.

In the final analysis, it is best to seek answers from your own parish. I have served with priests that love this, and ones who detest it. I am sure others have a similar experience.

Bask in the Easter joy of resurrection,
Deacon Christopher

On the other hand, some folks don’t want to read digests of information, they want to engage in conversation. Hence… internet forums. 😉
