Please indulge and forgive my ignorance.

I was at mass today and resolved to make an effort to start attending daily mass (a new thing for me) over the Lenten season. Aflame with new vigor I stopped by the local Catholic book store and picked up a daily missal, the Angelus Press 1962 Daily Missal that I recalled having heard good things about on these boards.

I’ve since cracked it open, placing it’s bookmark on today (Thursday after Ash Wednesday) and realized that the readings were entirely different than what was read in Mass today.

Missal: Is. 38, Ps. 64 and Mt 8
Mass today: Dt 30, Ps 1, Lk 5

Could someone clear up my confusion??

You probably attended a Pauline Mass (1970 Missal). The Missal you picked up (1962) is for the Tridentine Mass.

Yes, I would say you are attending the Novus Ordo Mass, not the Traditional Latin Mass for which the 1962 Missal is used.

I commend you for your resolution to attend the daily Mass, good for you! Now that you have that beautiful new missal, I hope you will look up a traditional mass in your area and put it to use. Consider it a sign from God!

No luck on a Tridentine mass in my area. I’m located in Canada, and after investigation I’ve discovered that the Tridentine Mass isn’t celebrated anywhere in my diocese. A shame. I think it would be a great experience.

I’ve since picked up a St. Joseph Missal. Thanks for the help!
