Hi everyone.
Tomorrow after the TLM there is going to be a carmelite priest enrolling people in the Brown Scapular.

Im having trouble understanding what one must do if enrolled in the Brown Scapular. Are there daily tasks/prayers to do?

I’ve read that the little office must be done everyday? Then I read the rosary must be recited daily or meat abstinence on Wednesday and Saturdays? I am really confused.

I only ask because I want to know before I decide ro enroll, I dont want to let the Blessed Mother down by not being able to do what must be done/is required.

I could sure use extra grace right now…I feel I am in a spiritual desert and my health is concerning me…I need all the grace I can get…
Thank you.

Never mind…I downloaded the little office. Please pray for me as I make this decision.

Hi again Maria,

The Liturgy of the Hours or Divine Office are the daily prayers that the priests normally pray.

Lay people can also pray these prayers as well.

For the enrollment, you can pray these prayers, or you can pray the Rosary, too.

In the link that I provided for you, it indicates what is necessary for enrollment.

Thank you,

Can anyone explain the liturgy of the hours? What hours are they axactly?
Don’t try to take on to much to soon. I say the Rosary and I also get the “Magnificat” monthly. It has daily office readings for lay folks. And other very inspirational readings of Saints etc. Also readings for Daily Mass. I would suggest going to Daily Mass if possible and saying the Rosary to start out. I have been wearing the Brown Scapular for more than 40 years and I feel as tho Our Lady has her arms around me. God Bless, Memaw

This is the most recent catechesis given about the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, presented by both branches of the Carmelite Order.

Thank you!
What does it mean by “regularly praying the divine office”?
That’s going to be extremely hard when college starts up :o

Praying the Hours isn’t that hard – Morning/Evening Prayer (Lauds/Vespers) take about 15 minutes, and Night Prayer about 10 minutes.

#3 says “the regular praying of at least part of the Liturgy of the Hours”.

Morning and Evening prayer is considered “part” of the LOTH.

Do your best. It is not a sin if you cannot do either Morning or Evening because of other priorities on a given day.
