I(think) I know the way things worked whith ritious people dying before Christ made atonement of their sins, they went to sheol/“the grave” where their souls were just kind of there. Dead. But Jesus opened the gates of heaven, and preached to the souls in prison and they repented.

Now what I don’t understand is that a lot of people use 2 Maccabees as a biblical referance to purgatory, but if they simply went to sheol, what would be the point of removing the effects of sin? Doesn’t it defeat the purpose of being purged, so you can spend eternity with God?
And my apologies if this is the wrong spot

Welcome Teenager!

You might want to repost this on the Apologetics forum. If you get nowhere there, come back here and we’ll try to help. I’d have to do some research before I would tackle that one. You bring up a good question. There are some very smart people on this forum. Maybe someone knows.

God bless,

It is written christ descended into hell.there are different parts of hell(higher and lower). In the higher part therre are no damned souls.Christ descended to tell the good news of the gospel to those trapped in the higher part.No fire, ect. They could now enter heaven. When you speak of the grave and rightest souls are you referring to saints?

I was referring to people like Abraham, Moses, people in the Old Testament who did the will of God.

I was asking if the Maccbean soldiers were going to Sheol, why would they go to Purgatory?
