Your options are very wide even if there isn’t a Mass that suits you within practical distance.
  • Listen to Scripture readings and make Spiritual Communion
  • volunteer for SVP or Legion of Mary
  • join the Charismatics (if you have decent ones in your area)
  • catechise and/or be catechised, formally or informally
  • share Scriptures with other Catholics and people of different churches
  • visit the lonely or have them visit you
  • pray (a lot) for the renewal of Pentecost
The world’s our oyster really. Discontent is God’s sly gift. It’s up to us to make it holy.

I agree with your options though I’d just like to clarify that this is not as an alternative to Mass… they should be in addition to Mass as there is no alternative to Mass.

After Jesus ascended, they met on the Lords day. They were persecuted from going to temple/synagogue, although perhaps they did until it was destroyed in AD 90.

By 100AD they had liturgical norms as evidenced by St Justin Martyr and others.

The mass as you find it in Latin today was codified about 500 years ago but it changed from Greek or Aramaic to Latin far earlier than that.

It was the ancient practice of the church for the mass to be said in the common language. In fact this is even why it switched to Latin.

I am glad you are submitting, and it sounds like you are but struggling. I’d encourage you to continue in prayer. There is nothing wrong with going to the Latin mass (extraordinary form) but there is a problem if you believe the novus ordo is in error or that the church somehow has lost its authority. When you say the novus ordo is invalid, then you are saying the church has no authority.

I will also state, lots of liturgical abuse slipped into many parishes over the last few decades. This is not the fault of the novus ordo, but individuals in parishes.

It perhaps might help you to read the document of the second Vatican council regarding the liturgy.

I not only intend to read what you are suggesting I intend to read all of the documents. It’s going to take some time but as a faithful Catholic what else can I do?

After a lot of thought and prayer last night I think the things to do are in this order: pray on it, follow my instincts, and perhaps stay off of Catholic blogs and forums for good. Thank you and God bless!

Especially the wrong type of Catholics blogs and forums!

I’m sorry, but there are those who are scandalizing others on a consistent basis by making them paranoid and afraid of the Magisterium. I have gotten to the point that if I see someone detracting or calumniating a priest, a bishop, or especially the Holy Father, I absolutely ignore them. Many people are not in a good place, and they are tearing down others, consciously or not.

Sowing discord and confusion about highly nuanced aspects of theology and liturgy is not what we are called to as laypersons. We are also not called to obsessively seek knowledge that is beyond our station in life. Coming to massive conclusions about vastly important topics, and using those conclusions to judge the Magisterium, is bad enough on its own. How much more when such a person has absolutely zero formal training!

What I say too you is, never give up on the church you go too ,for God loves you,and if people don,t want to listen to what you say, then remember ,Jesus listen,s too all that come to be with him in his Father,s house.,and listen too what your GRANDMA said,s ,she will help you understand what you want too hear. I couldn’t agree more. I’m going to say my piece about using the words “Novus Ordo” and then I’m outta here. Maybe, just maybe, if people would quite identifying the Mass in Ordinary Form as “New Mass” or “Novus Ordo”, they might start to lessen their worries and confusion about it. To be honest, I’ve only encountered a few threads on here where CAF members have used the term “Novus Ordo” in a way that wasn’t derogatory. Most of the time, that term is used in a disparaging or derogatory manner. As though it was said in disgust. When we read such things on other blogs and forums or read it here in a negative manner on CAF, it starts to sink in and cause confusion within ourselves. IS it valid? IS it licit? Should I attend? Father did this or that there and now should I contact the Bishop? We start to let our own preferences color our understanding of what the Church has given us and then we begin to question…and wonder…and doubt. Perhaps, just maybe, if we started calling that form of the Mass which so many on here seem to view with disdain by its actual name- The Mass in Ordinary Form, or OF Mass, we’d start to understand that this IS the ordinary of the Church. This form of the Mass is the Ordinary and that the beloved Latin Mass- the Extraordinary Form is just that- the Extraordinary, we’d have less disgust for the OF, even if we dearly love, prefer, and only attend the Extraordinary.

I am in agreement with this post! reading both is good idea. I have not read Vatican II as yet but I plan on it soon.
