hi all, as my first semester of grad school comes to an end(thankfully), i have been tired and confused throughout the whole process. it just seems all too overwhelming like i’m being water-boarded everyday or some other form of torture.
i just feel life only gets harder and harder everyday until it eventually break and cripples you.
i really doubt God has plans for my life…and if He does , I don’t think they are that great.

i’m just stressed out having to be better and better everyday trying to make it in the real world.

has any of you gone through this in yur early 20s post college? thanks.

My grad school was not unlike what you describe, which eventually led me to bail out of the program with an MA rather than a doctorate.

An email friend refers to her time in grad school as “the therapy years.” She got her doctorate and has a very good teaching job that she is very good at.

Not everybody has that sort of grad school experience (my husband seemed to get through his doctorate with very little misery), but a lot of people share your experience. So, it’s not just you.

Drop by student counseling when you have a minute.

Best wishes!

My oldest daughter went through what you are describing. She lost weight and stayed stressed the whole time. I don’t recall mine being that bad, but times are so different and very competitive now. I think prayer is the most powerful healer when my life seems stressed and out of control. Also, I find a long talk with my priest is very helpful. Final point, you are obviously a dynamic and intelligent person to continue your education. God DOES have great plans for you! Just believe. I will be praying for you!

Sounds like 1st year of law school. There is a movie about that… The Paper Chase. It was made in the 1980’s.

For me, undergraduate was a fight–with myself. Graduate school made complete sense because I had a job in the field I was studying so I could apply the theories and techniques I was learning. It was hard at first but I found out I was in the wrong field… Psychology… when I found my field, Reading…BINGO. Relief and success. I spent at least a semester figuring it out. Hope you have the same success. Have you thought you might be in the wrong field? Just a thought. Lots of prayers are coming your way…

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Welcome to your early twenties. When I was there I thought life had passed me by. I felt pressured to accomplish something real but was all theory and very little practice. Be assured God does have a plan but we usually only see it working in the rear view mirror when we exclaim wow and feel foolish for doubting him. He calls us to trust in Him and that is easier said then done. He calls us to patience and that is really hard when we’re young. As said in Isiah “Be Still And Know That I am God” , not just a warm and fuzzy saying, but a road map!

Well, I’m still in undergrad but I feel your pain for sure. I feel so overwhelmed with all I have on my plate. I literally feel like a walking zombie half the time. I feel in a daze, and hopeless sometimes as well. But as others have said, God has a plan. We’ll all look back on these years one day and be glad we struggled because we’ll enjoy the reward that much more. I try to view hard times just as another chance for God to shine through and prove my doubts wrong again. Hang in there! You’ll be in my prayers! :gopray:

What’s your prayer life like?
Prayer is a great device for peace, and calming yourself after a particularly stressful or disappointing day.
The spiritual benefits are obvious.
Spend quiet time in meditative prayer. God has a plan for you. It may not unfold fro a while, so stay close to God in prayer.
