I’ve just joined and it would be great if you could help me out with sone thoughts.

I am a man in my 30s. I am not officially Catholic but I am intending to start RCIA in September.

I’ve known a friend for about 2 years in a work related setting.

I have begun to develop feelings for her during 2014 and believe that she may (I emphasise the word may) have feelings for me.

Saint Paul makes clear that we should not be yoked with unbelievers. I believe that very strongly. I don’t know anything about her faith. But I think she may have a Catholic background from her name, so Paul’s words would not apply then.

I’m quite confused at the moment. I think if I knew her outside of the work setting, I would have asked her out for coffee.

But I don’t see how I could do anything at the moment. It could be very complicated because we know each other in a work related setting, although it is a very large company.

If I left the company, I would probably ask her our for coffee. But I have no intention of moving jobs at the moment.

I’ve been praying for guidance and discernment.

I don’t see a problem with asking her out for a coffee after work or something like that. Unless there are some rules where you work about not dating other employees. Maybe even see if the two of you can have lunch together. Is there a break room or other place where you eat lunch? Getting together there to “talk shop” could be a first step. When I say “talk shop,” I mean, get to know each other and what your respective jobs are. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Ask her out for coffee. Or get some people together for drinks after work and invite her along. I think you’re making too big of a deal out of this, especially since you don’t really know her all that well.

It’s only a cup of coffee.
You don’t know whether or not you have a real connection yet…give it a chance. But it will definitely never happen of you don’t make a move. You’ve got nothing to lose.
Best wishes!

Ask her out for coffee, at this stage, it doesn’t matter what her religious affiliation is, you are just getting to know her a little better.
