When parents divorce how do their children get raised Catholic. There is religious instuction, but are they really being raised Catholic. Can the sin of the parents come off on the children, being led astray and having certain aspects of life that become engrained in the person(the child of divorce). Not standing up for what is right, is not honoring the parents,sin begets sin and all.

Keep in mind that sin is in the blood. The sins of the parents can, indeed, be “transmitted” to the children. Or at least give them a weakness in that area.

You should deal with this as part of the child custody arrangement. Also if the child have already had their baptism in the Catholic Church then they should keep receiving their sacraments - but overall now it is going to come down to what was agreed to in the custody arrangement - there is not a lot of information there to go on.

The title of the OP suggests that the “guilty” parent has custody of the children but it doesn’t follow that they will necessarily be brought up as sinners. Everything depends on how strong that parent’s faith is - and on the beliefs of the step-parent, if there is one.

There is no guarantee, of course.

Mind you, there’s no guarantee that couples who don’t divorce will raise their children Catholic either. That’s something I’ve seen happen far too often as well, even if they have the children baptised.

It’s more likely that the children pick up bad habits from the parents, or simply fail to learn good habits elsewhere.

This makes little sense to me?

Are you speaking about genetic psychological tendencies? Actual sin being transmitted through blood? The transmission of original sin? I have never heard of a Catholic doctrine which states that “sin is in the blood.”

Would you care to clarify this statement for me?
