there is no biblical evidence one way or the other for identifying Mary of Magdela as a prostitute, there is a long tradition, but even if she was it in no way detracts from the point of her story, that no matter what your previous state of life, sin, sanctity, demonic possession, or phariseec mentality, when Christ has healed you and forgiven you, you are now fit and worthy to be a witness of His resurreciton, to be his intimate friend and brother, to let him bring you to the Father.

Nota Bene:
Thankfully it’s not your call whether or not the Kiss of Peace is included in the Mass. It’s up to the individual celebrant.
Hehe, yeah, no doubt. Since the sign of peace was implemented by the Apostles on instruction of Christ, I suppose I will have to say I agree with it…

These people need to read some history and stop assuming that the 1962 Missal was handed down from God in a vision.

WOW!!! Wow, wow, wow!!

THANK YOU to everyone for such wonderful responses! I am impressed and humbled. I realized after writing that when I refered to alter girls it was after reading a very long post about them. Quite a discussion there. I lean more towards not having alter girls because I believe women have important roles in and out of the church. Interestingly, I’m torn about whether or not women should fill this or other positions in the church that have always been filled by men.

Yes, MonicaPA - that was Fr. Corapi - and yes, the show did seem dated, now that you mention it. Thanks for noting that.

Isn’t it interesting how one book can cause so much debate and conversation? I think it’s good - it makes you think - makes you dig deeper into what you know and believe. I haven’t read it, but have talked to people who have and I love the shows they do on the History channel talking about the facts of the situation.

Netmil(name removed by moderator) - AMEN! I have thought alot about going to mass lately and have thought long and hard about what I think and believe and hope to gain from it - and it truly boiled down to being a deeply spiritual experience for me. Not going to be seen or to impress, but to experience God.

It’s clear that this, like other situations, will be more about the state of my thoughts and heart going into it than what I think I remember it being, or what I think it’s like now.

There are a million other issues behind this, so I appreciate everyone’s patience and (name removed by moderator)ut!! Thanks also to StBruno - I’ll check out the sites you offered.

Thanks to everyone again, and I’ll stick around a little longer this time!

Hi Fizendell 🙂 I am so glad that you are thinking about coming home. Which leads me into recommending The Coming Home Network to you. Just type it into Google and the site will come up. EWTN has a series called The Journey Home on which converts tell why they ‘came home’. I listen to the archived radio programmes on my computer; they are awesome.

Just to add my two cents, I also have a problem with kissing as the Sign of Peace.

Also, I find it inappropriate to introduce kissing in the mass while frowning on people for kissing their friends on greeting. From what I know, kissing friends on the cheek is regarded as a morally dubious European custom in normal circumstances.

I don’t live in the US. I am a European and I kiss my friends on the cheek if they are female (for guys it doesn’t hold in this country), but I still wouldn’t feel comfortable kissing people during the mass. And I really hope it’s the cheek what you mean by kissing.
