I’ve often seen on many moral theology manuals that “moral certainty” is all one can attain in moral human acts. I’m not sure if I understand this correctly since the church teaches that some things like abortion are intrinsically evil and NEVER permissible to do…and it teaches that some things are an absolute good…such as fulfilling your Sunday obligation.

So does this mean that one can’t have absolute certainty that they did the right thing by fulfilling their Sunday obligation instead of skipping Mass?..and can’t be absolutely certain that if they follow through with an abortion, they will be doing something wrong?

I dont know if this is what you are asking, but we are expected to follow the Church’s teachings on what is right and what is morally wrong. We know that what the Church teaches (abortion is murder, going to Mass on Sunday is good) is true because it comes from God. Hope this helps!

I was asking if one can be absolutely sure of the morality of their decision in regards to acts dogmatically condemned/approved by the Church.

We can be certain because certain teachings are dogma, while some are not. Abortion being evil is a dogma, since we cannot kill an innocent in the womb which goes against the 5th Commandment and has been taught throughout the history of the Church in Councils, by the Church Fathers, Encyclicals, Saints Writings, Present day writings. We can be certain that abortion, the direct killing of an innocent child in the womb, is intrinsically evil. This teaching is also irreversible.

We can always trust Holy Mother Church. We are certain that doctrines and dogmas are true. Completely, morally certain.
