Confused on when lent ends

This is my first year observing lent. I went to daily mass today and Father said that lent ends tomorrow. That was confusing because I though that it ended Easter day. Everthing I have read about lent has said that it ends on Easter day. In other words, if you are abstaining from somthing for lent, as of Sunday at 12:00 am you dont have to abstain anymore. I mentally prepared myself to not drink a beer or smoke up untill Easter.
I go to a Roman Catholic church by the way. Perhaps I misunderstood what Father meant or somthing, but I am positive he said lent ends tomorrow. Infact he said it twice. Help someone…

Lent ends tomorrow and the Triduum (our shortest Liturgical Season) starts with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. The Triduum lasts until Evening Prayer Sunday. Your fast from beer and cigarettes would last until after the Vigil – at which time it’s Easter.

I think I understand now Lent Ends tomorrow, but my fast does not end untill Easter Sunday. I was wrong in that I though they end at the same time. Thank you.

Excluding the Triduum from Lent is something of an innovation. While there has been great variation throughout the history of Lent, I think in recent centuries Lent was counted exactly as you understood it. Nonetheless, for at least the last 43 years it has been clear that the Church no longer counts any part of the Triduum as part of Lent.

If you attend the Easter Vigil Mass you are free to feast Saturday night after Mass!
