Hello I am new to this forum and have many questions, some of which I’ve found answers to in this forum. My biggest concern is that my wife has recently left the Catholic Church to attend a new church called The Door Christian Fellowship and things have not been the same. I have been Catholic all of my life and have decided to stay with the Catholic Church. My wife and her new friends have tried to get me to attend their church and I’ve gone once but do not feel comfortable there. She has taken our son to children’s church on days where my son does not have ‘faith formation’ classes at my church. Although we both believe in Jesus Christ as our savior there are some obvious differences many of which have been discussed here with others who have had experiences with ‘evangelicals’.

Some of the items I have questions with are: Should I be concerned regarding this change in my family? How did the Catholic Church change its views from other churches regarding Tithing? Are other churches just looking for money? Is Outreach or street preaching OK?

Should you be concerned? Why, of course!!! The Catholic Church is the Church that Christ started. Didn’t your wife make a promise to God that she would raise her kids Catholic? Doesn’t that promise mean anything to her?

The Church’s view on tithing is that it’s a good thing. But forced tithing is not. Where in the NT is tithing enforced, except in reference to the Mosaic practice?

I can’t speak for or against the policies of other churches’ monetary demands.

Evangelizing should always be encouraged.

BTW, Welcome to the Forums, RCEE!!!

Yes, you should be very concerned. The #1 issue you need to convince your wife about is the authority of the Magesterium, as opposed to Sola-Scriptura. There are plenty of threads here that address that issue. Please see my replies on this one forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=204407
Hopefully that can convince your wife. Also, a useful book would be “By What Authority” by Mark Shea. Furthermore, EWTN has an excellent show called, “The Journey Home” at 8:00PM on Monday nights that show stories of people who were Protestant and converted TO the Catholic Church.

Your phraseology of your second question concerns me. I think it is merely the phraseology, but are you suggesting that all churches started on equal terms with the same views, and that the Catholic Church suddenly changed her views? If so, that is NOT the case. The Catholic Church has divine authority granted from God. The other “Christian” denominations all rebelled against that divine authority, or against not so divine authority that can eventually be traced back to rebelling against divine authority.

I don’t feel that all churches that teach that we are COMMANDED to tithe are just after money, but some might be.

We are called to witness to others. Our methodologies in doing that can vary, provided that they never become immoral means to an intended moral outcome.

Dear Confused,

I have learned not to assume everyone is on the same page when it comes to our Faith. So that being said…

**1.**All churches did not start at the same time.

The Catholic Church is almost 2000 years old.
Protestant churches have only been around for 490 years, since 1517 when a Catholic, Martin Luther, started a movement called the Protestant Reformation. They “protested” against some of the Catholic Church’s teachings. Before 1517ad. there were no such things as Protestant churches.

**2.**All Protestant denominations are founded by humans.

The Catholic Church was founded by God->Jesus.
Jesus built His church on Peter who was our 1st. pope (pope is Italian means papa) our priests are ordained by bishops who had been ordained by other bishops going all the way back to Peter. Like a long game of tag. It’s called Apostolic Succesion.

**3.**We know that around 33ad. Jesus started His ministry.

33-40’s-50’s-60’s-70’s-80’s-90’s-100’s,200,300,400,500,600,700,800,900,1000,1100,
1200,1300,1400,1500’s

Up until this time if you were Christian you were Catholic. That being said…
Where did we as Christians receive the Bible as we know it today?

A: Pope Damasus Ist called a council of bishops together to decide which scripture to place into one book. He then had his secretary translate the Old Testament and the New Testament scriptures into Latin and all the writings placed into one book. There were no Protestants around!

**4.**The Bible is a Catholic book! It is complete!

Martin Luther in 1517 decided that 7 books were not inspired by the Holy Spirit so he had them removed! Protestant bibles have 7 books missing. He would have removed the book of James and Revelation but his followers stopped him.

more on the books here drbo.org/intro.htm

1.Tobias,2.Judith,3.Wisdom,4.Ecclesiasticus,
5.Prophecy Of Baruch, 6.First Book Of Machabees,
7.Second Book Of Machabees,

5. Only the Catholic Church abides in Jesus.

** "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.

John 6:56**

Protestant denominations teach that Jesus meant symbolically, not for real. The Catholic Church from the time of Jesus has always taught the Real Presence in the Eucharist.(and if it is a non-denomination that says they have the Real Presence…they don’t, because their ministers were not ordained through that Apostolic Succesion I mentioned earlier.)

6. Find out who founded the church your wife is attending and what they teach. I found this on

The Door Christian Fellowship

maryland.thedoorcfc.com/statement.html

If this is the one it was founded in 1970 by Wayman Mitchell in Prescott, Arizona.

7. This would really help you to learn your Faith.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church.

usccb.org/catechism/text/

I hope this helps. God Bless you on your journey.

Yes, you should be concerned. If your child is Baptized Catholic you should be taking him with you to church. If your wife wants to abandon the Catholic faith then it’s her personal choice, However she cannot force you to abandon your promise to raise your child in the Catholic faith. Supporting the Church is required by the Catholic Church, it’s a precept of the Church. We are to do this to the best of our ability. by time, talent and treasure. Is evangenization OK? Yes, not all are street preachers, but all are called to evangelize, if it is promoting the true Gospel and not spreading error. Many other “churches” are just businesses many times entertainment businesses and are run like a business.

Outreach is GREAT! There are a lot of great materials and ministries that can help with that.

There’s more…these are just some that I use.

Street preaching? Why? So we can look like the rude (and often anti-Catholic) people already out there? I say no, unless the Lord specifically tells you to go. Better yet…Friendship: The Key to the Evangelization of Men

Hi,

I see no difference in going to the other churches. Because our Lord has said that “whoever speaks in the name of the father, the son and the holy gosht” we can go and hear the msg of the christ. But we have to be union with One church that’s Catholic Church which was started the apostle’s of christ.

Go to the church on Sunday and hear the msgs of the God every moment and sec. I want to share more if you’re interested in my bit of God’s wisdom I earned to share with u.
