I have a friend in Adelanto, CA who states that “confession” is no longer practiced by the Catholic Church - and definitely not by Latinos. He states that it is no longer necessary and that “no one” does it anymore. How can I respond to this? Sandy

wow Sandy you have a friend out in the desert - the “high country or desert”. I mean the meth cap of the US. wow that is so bad to hear that. and evil. a priest, whom I trust, told me to run from impurity and evil. Get her out of there.

Tell your firend “Nice try, but no cigar!”

Your frind’s statement is just plain nonsense. The Church is a little larger than either their parish (where I seriously doubt it has stopped - it may just be underutilized), or their city (even greater doubts if there is more than one church), or their county (no doubts here) or their diocese (absolutely no doubts).

I have to say I am a little surprised at this thread. The priest handled the situation badly and should have at least spent a short time listening to the penitent, but there is no question the absolution is valid. I find myself much more concerned with the confessors who spend 45 minutes on Saturday afternoon playing armchair psychiatrist for 2 or 3 people, then pop out of the box cheerfully telling the 1/2 dozen still in line that he’ll to catch them after the Vigil Mass.

It would appear that there are some misconceptions about “confessions”. Proof?? Last Sunday before Mass, a friend there told me that a female acquaintance had informed him that she no longer goes to confession. He asked “why?” She replied, “Because now I’m over 65.” TRUTH!!

Hello all:

I am scared of confesssion, after the trouble you in good standing have had I am not sure I should go at all.

These are unusual experiences. Sounds like it’s been a while since you went to confession. If that is the case, call your parish and make an appointment to speak privately with a priest before coming to this sacrament again – you won’t regret it!

I read your other posts on confession. Please do not use this as another block to confession.

I have a friend who has some serious issues to work through also. She finally discussed it with our priest and was also given permission to come or not to. It would not be mortal sin for her to miss Mass due to the circumstances. He did however tell her she needed to continue with her therapy in order to try to resolve her very valid fears.

You seem to have done the same with your priest.

Be at peace. Continue to work through your issues.

And remember, Confession is not something to fear, but a wonderful gift given to us by Christ! Saying that, know that even people without issues sometimes don’t want to go. But once they do, they wonder why they waited so long to feel so good.

May God Bless you and keep you safe during your trials.

Maria
