The Canon is speaking of married life (conjugal life) not sex (conjugal relations) contracepted or otherwise.
How do you know this?

Can you live a conjugal life without conjugal relations? Is that the suggestion?

There is a theme here at CAF, and it is partly good and partly… insufficient.

It’s “talk to your priest”
it really is a good theme. how can strangers give advice without knowing all the intimate details or having qualifications to give advice in a way that it is positive and won’t damage the situation more. ?
an example of this is your exchange with Joline up thread.

you must respect your priest’s unwillingness to invite your spouse to discussion. Have you tried a marriage counsellor professional instead?
are you guys still together or separated?

we all repent of our sins. everyone sins.

Do you imagine priests never making mistakes, or having faults?

Are you prepared to listen to some negative stories? Or will you assume they don’t do anything wrong anyway and it’s a waste of my time?

I can PM you some of my situation.

I respect priests. But I also don’t place them on a pedistol as if they have all the answers, are as bold as they ought to be, are as orthodox as they ought to be, or don’t ever give wrong advice.

You know what, I met and celebrated Mass tonight with a wonderful Cardinal from Tonga. His Eminence is the youngest Cardinal, at 56. His homily was all about God’s mercy. Divine Mercy. And get this,
his homily was about how the most errant, most sinning of sinners , are entitled to the greatest biggest share of Jesus Mercy, Divine Mercy. And how we all confront a cross or crosses in our lives.

With him, was a young priest from Chicago, ordained 11 weeks ago. So full of love of the Divine Mercy of the Suffering Jesus and of love for Jesus was this young Priest. And yes, Chicago USA.
Now this young priest grew up Catholic, but his family did not practice, until he was 16. His mum had a reversion and started taking them all to church.
His grandmother, who lives in Italy said 17 rosaries a day, one for each member of the family who had turned from God, for many years. And the first to return to God, was his mum, and he became a Priest!

RC witness I read another of your threads. You are separated.
Can you have Mercy and lots of prayer for your separated partner. Perhaps prayer and practice forgiveness. Even though its hard.
I can imagine a priest is thinking the best person for your situation is a marriage counsellor, which a priest is not, unless he has this qualification.

When the Church says “conjugal relations” does that include contracepted sex?
This is a bit vague.
Can you quote and reference a Magisterial document?
Its usually just a paraphrase for “coitus” - which is still coitus even if contracepted.
“Marital embrace” is another translation - a contracepted embrace is still an embrace.
Keep in mind that a marriage is not consummated without deposit of fluid, so a general answer to that question is insufficient.

Separation then appears the next step.

But then, like I say, its their business in the end not ours.
You should not be encouraging the separation of a married couple based on internet conversations. That is scandalous. Please stop.

What if during separation, the supposed innocent spouse begins dating (sexually too) another married man? And after the pastor is informed, this pastor does not invite them to speak, even after this spouse attends a Mass and receives Communion from him!!

It makes me sick to my stomach.

The Vademecum cites Denzinger 2795 and 3634, both of which condemn, unequivocally, with no exceptions, one spouse having sex with the other, when the other is using any kind of contraception. The only exception is natural onanism (withdrawal), which the wife can cooperate with only for a grave reason. The Vademecum specifically says that intrinsically evil acts do not permit cooperation (as that would be formal cooperation, which is always illicit). See footnotes 47 and 48 in the Vademecum, and n,. 5, 13, and 14.

Also, for abortifacient contraception, the sin of cooperation is even more gravely immoral, as you are cooperating in the deaths of your own unborn children.

There is no exception when a spouse is non-Catholic. Also, contracepted sex does not suffice to consummate a marriage.

You are wounded, You and your spouse have separated. Its a very difficult time for you now.

but we are called to show mercy and forgive. You guys would not have had a marriage breakdown over contraception. there must be other issues. Have you asked her what they are.

Yes, I am hurting tremendously. And I have hurt her.

I cannot speak too much about details.

She is not forgiving, but entered into a sexual relationship with another married man. I will always be open to reconciling. I can offer forgiveness, but she does not have remorse.

Why, it was a hypothetical scenario but the OP fibbed and only belatedly revealed it was himself?
I suggest you advise the OP instead.

Doing a CAF search this poster has raised the issue in considerably more details multiple times over the last few years. He has been advised many times to talk to his priest rather than seek advice on CAF.
Yet he continues to ignore that advice.

He also ignores the advice of his own priests whom he regards as at odds with Church teaching and indeed keeps going to different priests as if to confirm objective teaching to present to his wife to comply. He was advised way back that his approach would only further alienate his wife and that appears to be exactly what has happened.

The OP has deep seated personal issues best handled by a priest or Catholic counsellor as he has been advised multiple times over the last 3 years or so.

This topic should be closed down : @camoderator
First of all, I don’t mind that you said a separation is warranted. But I did not fib. I said a Catholic couple.

I don’t know why some posters want to control whether a thread should be shut down or not. Why don’t you stay out if you don’t want to participate?

The advice from the priests that I ignored was to use condoms and to mutually masturbate.

The reason there were multiple priests, is because during this duration we had three different pastors!! And one was in Confessional that day. Not cool to think you know so much about my situation, and judge me.
