Connection maybe?

I have embarked on daily recitation of the rosary and I have since developed a strong desire to attend the Tridentine Mass, as I attended one just yesterday. Granted, I was a bit lost mainly due to the language. With that said, when I say the rosary I felt, and much of the time feel, a bit lost with regard to the meditation. But for some reason, I continue to sense a strong and powerful “pull” to continue on with the rosary and attend the Tridentine Mass. Could this be the foundation of faith, that some things are not always clear initially and we have to persevere even during times where we feel lost? What I saw at the Tridentine Mass was not so much a church service but what appeared to be something that was done for us out of nothing more than pure love. Is it possible that this is the all encompassing mystery that is drawing my spirit rather than my conscious and mind much like the rosary?

I am just an RCIA student but much is happening to me so I sincerely appreciate all of your thoughts.

Well, yes, there many things, such as the Blessed Trinity, the Virgin Birth, and transubstantiation, which are mysteries. These Truths can only be believed in through the gift of Faith that God grants us though the Sacrament of Baptism and strengthened in the other Sacraments.

And you are correct in saying that the Mass is less of a church service and more of an experience of pure love, because it truly is the re-presentation of the Holy Sacrifice of Our Lord Jesus on the Cross, the supreme act of His Divine Love on the Cross. We take part in His blessed glory through the Mass and come in union with Him through the Blessed Sacrament: the Holy Eucharist.

Also, you may find inspiration through this quote from the conclusion of the Prologue to the Catechism of the Catholic Church; I know I did:

"To conclude this Prologue, it is fitting to recall this pastoral principle stated by the Roman Catechism:

The whole concern of doctrine and its teaching must be directed to the love that never ends. Whether something is proposed for belief, for hope or for action, the love of our Lord must always be made accessible, so that anyone can see that all the works of perfect Christian virtue spring from love and have no other objective than to arrive at love."

Many people find the Tridentine mass very spiritual and the latin very beautiful and of course the rosary is a spiritual experience and I can appreciate that, that said many people find the mass today very spiritual and connected with the modern world and the things we have to deal with. Mass stands for mission or to be sent… So though the spirit resides in us which we receive at the mass, we’re supposed to go out into the world with the knowledge of our faith and truth in order to help create change in the world in order to continue one with the mission Jesus sent us to do as disciples. Its interesting that St. Paul had the foresight to understand this so long ago regarding the spirit and speaking in tongues…

1 Corinthians 14:13 Therefore, he who speaks in a tongue should pray for the power to interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What am I to do? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also. 16 Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how can any one in the position of an outsider say the “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? 17 For you may give thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified. 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than you all; 19 nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind, in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

So having the Holy Spirit direct our lives is good, but instruction in the Lord which happens through teachings received in a language understood by us is just as necessary. You’re going to RCIA and hopefully you can see how important the understanding our Catholic religion is. Now when Latin was a universal language, Latin was welcomed as a norm of the Church, but now the Church has grown and Latin is no longer the Universal language so the Church rather have the mass be said in ones native tongue so it is more understood though both forms of the mass are spiritual experiences. We are the Same Church brought together by the Unity of the Holy Spirit, just different languages are being used today … However, the Holy Spirit the same as always provides understanding between all languages bringing us together as people of one faith and one baptism in the Lord… That’s in a nutshell describes the marks of our Church… The ‘One’ Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church… I hope this helps… God bless…

I can’t answer your questions as they are personal and pertain to you, however I can say that I have heard it said,when it comes to their walk with Christ, if you feel drawn to something and it produces good fruit in you, then it could be the Holy Spirit guiding you towards it.

I have heard many say the same things you say here about this subject of the Tridentine Mass, so it doesn’t sound unusual to me… I wouldn’t discount what you are sensing/feeling/perceiving - lets put it that way. I’ve heard it preached one should go with their conscience- and what it is convicting them of.

I agree, its not a ‘church service’.

Overall, we are all on a faith journey. We are walking toward God, and if your path takes you through Latin and the Tridentine Mass, then this is your path. No worries. God is with you.
