It has been many many years since I have watched a boxing match, or even interested in watching one - but this UFC fighter Conor McGregor may be barking up the wrong tree, IMO.

Conor McGregor Vs. Floyd Mayweather: Historic Boxing Superfight Date Announced Aug. 26th in Las Vegas.

My sons disagree with me and believe Conor McGregor is so confident in his abilities he will win.

Any thoughts on this match?

If you strongly dislike boxing I understand.

I’m with your sons. McGregor thus far has backed most of his loud talk with result. I expect he has been and will continue to prep for this fight and will catch out an over the hill Mayweather who will likely believe this is a cakewalk.

A very interesting fight for sure. The only way I see Connor winning is if he knocks Floyd out. I don’t see that happening, Floyd has too much experience running to get caught. I don’t think Floyd can knock Connor out either, so if it goes the distance Floyd ends up winning.

Will it be a cage fight or a boxing match? How old is Floyd Mayweather? I know
Conor is a good cage fighter, but I don’t know about a boxing match.

It’s going to be a boxing match and mayweather is 40.

Im not really a boxing fan, and indifferent to it, but for some reason, I get Floyd Mayweather facebook posts all the time, I never followed or subscribed to him, but its every day, I get videos and pictures of Mayweather, the Money team, his new strip club in Vegas, etc etc, whats strange, many of his posts show HUGE piles of money either being handled or sitting somewhere, I guess he is just playing the part, but with the way he appears to spend money, I wouldnt imagine a prize win would last him that long.

Out of curiosity I looked up the opening odds in Las Vegas. The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook lists Floyd Mayweather as a big 1/11 (-1100) favorite - Conor McGregor as a 7/1 (+700) underdog.

Odds explanation (For entertainment purposes only)
You’d need to risk $11 to make $1 return on Mayweather to win.
McGregor, for every $1 wagered you would be returned $7 if he won.

Las Vegas believes Floyd Mayweather is not that old.

I reckon McGregor is heading towards a huge payday. He’s going to get beat up, but one gimmick match with Floyd is going to make him more money than any other fight he’s ever had

I am debating paying the $89.99 pay per view price instead of paying less to go out to see it. Though that always costs more for food and drinks.

Anyone watching the fight live this weekend?

  • Mayweather has been retired 2 years, hasn’t knocked out anyone in a fight in 10 years, and he is 40 years old.
-McGregor was some sort of amateur teen boxer, is southpaw, has footwork that can’t be timed by Mayweather, and he’s 25 years old.

Floyd wants that even 50 win, but McGregor is the one who always pushed for this fight. This is a real toss up. I want to say Mayweather because he has years of experience, and is undefeated. But McGregor is unorthodox with that footwork that can’t be timed. He could get tired easy, but Floyd will just jab and move. McGregor is going for a KO, while Floyd just wants a win.

Mayweather is to Hillary…as McGregor is to Trump. We all saw how the supposedly unbeatable candidate lost, and the same thing could apply here.

I’ve never been into boxing that much myself, but I have seen a few matches when friends or family ordered pay per view. From what I hear about this fight, McGregor’s strength is in mixed martial arts where kicking, wrestling, and takedowns are allowed. In boxing where only punching is allowed, he will be missing a lot of his tactics. Mayweather is much older but has a long history of winning in boxing with great defense. He doesn’t cause knockouts but knows how to score points from the judges. That’s enough to win in boxing. Win or lose they both make big money (200+ million each). I won’t be watching, but I will check the news after to see what happened. I am predicting Mayweather to win.

Floyd just dances around the ring waiting for his opponent to ware out. His fights are boring.

$89.99 ? Are you frigging kidding me!

Thats what this is really about.

I think I could get into boxing (not MMA style) if I wasnt so jaded on it, too many accounts of it being rigged and fake. even with this fight, some promoter on one side was recently found shot to death, apparently he was going around saying this whole fight is a sham, Floyd and Conner are friends and devised this as a big payday for the both of them.

I have no idea if true or not, but theres no way to know either way, so it kind of ruins it for me.

Unfortunately, I am not.

As for the bogus story of a promoter shot and killed - I guess the sorted history of boxing does lend people to believe such things. Fake tabloid stories thrive with the aid of the internet. 🤷

Here my cable provider it is, $89 for standard definition but $100 if you want to watch the fight in high definition.

I’m gonna go to the local sportsbar, pay a weak cover, and watch it there.

I’m seriously wanting to put some money on this one, but I just can’t decide where this one will go…

Its kind of silly this was so popular, Floyd was 49-0 McGregor was 0-0 and never once been in a boxing match, he was MMA fighter, which is a completely different style of fighting, in the end, he never stood a chance.
