If one is ordered say by an official of the Govt. to do something evil under obedience…one follows instead …obeys…the teachings of the Church…ones conscience and disobeys the official.

What should prevail conscience or obedience?
If your conscience is formed in accordance with the Castechism of the Catholic Church, then I have to say that conscience rules. If you aren’t certain, ask a priest.

Conscience

We have to follow the law and God’s word of course.

I don’t know what your conscience tells you… but mine (when left to its own free will) thinks sloth is good, sloth and food is better, and sloth and gluttony is actually best.

Don’t forget the beer.

This will depend on the specifics of the situation. In normal everyday circumstances your conscience should tell you to be obedient to the teachings of the Church and to the civil authority.
Your conscience should also encourage you to learn more, pray more, and in general become more conformed to Christ through His Church.

Then - should some extraordinary circumstance come up where conscience and obedience might conflict, your conscience will be properly formed enough to be trusted to make a proper choice for the given circumstance…

So I guess i’m sort of saying that it is not an “either/or”…one works with the other.

Then you need obedience.😃

Did I meet you at Mass last week? I commented on your shirt - it had 1/4" size glasses of beer in its patterning. Almost indistinguishable unless a person looked close.

I was the person who pointed at the shirt and said, “Beer”. “Proof that God loves us.” 😃

:rotfl:

Seriously though - this brings in the very good point that “Obedience”…i.e. “Discipline” is VERY necessary as part of properly forming the conscience.

Consider how those in the military train and train and train, building discipline and the proper response in a given situation…And yet not every situation and circumstance can be planned and rehearsed for. So - based on what is learned - engrained - through training and discipline, the soldiers and officers are able to use their "well trained minds and bodies (well formed conscience) to “improvise” a proper solution…
