Consecrated virgins - why only females?

That is a metaphor used in Catholic teaching but not a fact. The term “Bride of Christ” does not occur in the Bible or in the Canon. Nuns have also been referred to as “brides of Christ.”

It is a physical impossibility for a woman be a priest. You’re suggesting that she be something that she literally cannot do. The priesthood is not a job and it’s not a right.

I understand that historically consecrated virgins have been women. And that the analogy of being married to Christ is sometimes given to describe this vocation.

But such analogies only go so far, otherwise we have to get into how Christ is in a marital state with countless women, and the Church to boot.

So analogy and history aside, there should be more profound theology behind this, and I don’t understand the theology of consecrated virgins that would explain why it is not a suitable vocation for men.

It is a job. It has a title and a salary. It is also an employment opportunity. It may be other things also, but it is that. I am an HR professional and I could show you the law. It is only because religiious institutions are exempt that it is not a problem.

The Church holds those sacraments as being “valid, but illicit.”
Not in the Anglican Church. They’re straight up invalid. Outside of baptism, at least.

In the eyes of the law, sure. But it does not matter what civil law thinks. Women can’t. It is a physical impossibility. Men cannot be women, women can’t be men.

BTW, robotic exoskeletons will someone allow quadriplegics to be firefighters, soldiers, whatever. Women will still not be able to be Catholic priests. So the analogy is clever, but incorrect.

There is a principle in the Catholic Church called “valid but illicit.” It comes into play when someone who is pretending to be a priest administers sacraments to people who believe that person to be a priest.
Not even in the ballpark.

Perhaps you should educate yourself before pontificating about things you don’t understand.

I did educate myself on it. You obviously haven’t because all you have to repost is a personal attack.

I think most faithful Catholics know about them. Whether or not they can become a cardinal or pope doesn’t mean they aren’t important.

That’s not really how it works. In order for a sacrament to be “valid but illicit”, the sacrament has to have all of the qualifications to be a real sacrament, but the person who is administrating it does not have the permission to do so. In the cases of the sacraments which must be administrated by a priest, the priest must have valid priestly orders in order for the sacrament to be valid. So, no “fake priests”. It doesn’t have anything to do with what people “believe”. What matters is whether or not the priest has valid orders passed down from the apostles. “Valid but illicit” situations are those where a validly ordained priest is excommunicated by the Church, but continues to administer sacraments. Those sacraments are valid, but illicit because the priest doesn’t have the authority to administer them anymore. Not all sacraments require a priest at all. For example, Baptism can be administered validly by anyone, but the laity are not authorized to go around Baptizing whomever they please. So, if I decide Aunt Bertha needs Jesus and Baptize her using water and saying “in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit”, it’s valid, but illicit.

see you are missing something very important, obedience and submission to the Holy See. You are also missing something important, what humans want as they progress on their pilgrimage home is God, not personal desires.

we are not other faiths. Their standards are not our standards .

you dont understand the Body of Christ and the Church. Read and contemplate the Song of Songs. Then Revelation and Daniel
