When is the proper time for the bells to ring at the consecration during mass and what is the proper procedure. Thank you and God bless your incredible ministry. Lori

General Instruction of the Roman Missal:
  1. A little before the consecration, when appropriate, a server rings a bell as a signal to the faithful. According to local custom, the server also rings the bell as the priest shows the host and then the chalice.
In most places the “a little before the consecration” means when the priest extends his hands over the bread and wine (the epiclesis). A bell then rings when the priest elevates the host and then the chalice.
