In the Byzantine Churches, the Chrism is consecrated on Holy Thursday. Among the Orthodox it’s generally ONCE during the lifetime/tenure of the primate.

What happens in the other Eastern Catholic Churches? Is this service limited to Holy Thursday? Can it be other times?

Do tell.

Bishop Basil,

The Holy Chrism is blessed by the Patriarch of Antioch in the Melkite Greek Catholic Church. I think it is once a year, but am not sure about that.

Yes only on Holy Thursday Just Like The Roman Catholic Church. I served In Eastern Churchs and it is a Great Liturgy to see.The patrearch dos it once a year . Hope this answers your Qusetion

I might not have been clear.

Yes, I know it’s the custom of both the Western and Byzantine Churches to consecrate the Holy Chrism on Thursday in Holy Week.

But how about the Maronites? Chaldeans? Syro-Malankara? Armenian? And others?

Is it UNIVERSAL to consecrate Chrism on this day, or are there other times it would be done?
