Consecration of St. Louis de Montfort

I have a question that applies to the Total Consecration of Jesus through Mary. I have consecrated mysef twice already on the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, that was only because it is during the summer so it was more convenient. Now I wish to Consecrate myself on a feast of which I have a particular devotion. I looked through the list and I cannot find one in which I am particularly devoted. The Holy Mother of God is the one I would prefer, is there anything against going with that day, rather than going off the list? Or must I stick to the list?

No need to stick with the list. I made mine on Christmas day, also not on the list. 😃
 
Consecrations can be made any day of the year. Every day is a feast day for at least a few different saints and there are Marian feasts every month.

The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist re-consecrate themselves to Jesus through Mary every morning.

Two of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist will be at my church in a few weeks to give a lecture. I’m very excited to meet them! 👍
 
As far as I can see in the information regarding preparation, there is no reason you cannot choose a date that differs from that on which you made your original consecration. Consecration is to be renewed annually out of love and deep respect for Our Lady, but if you went beyond that annual date, it would not result in a suspension of your intention to your state of consecration.

I thought this was something that was only done once, and then you annually re-affirm the consecration (and re-read True Devotion) on the anniversary of the original consecration date ?

Yes, you do not quite repeat the Consecration, you “renew” it 🙂

It is also nice to renew it with the “short formula” right before receiving Holy Communion:

“Totus tuus ego sum, Maria, et omnia mea tua sunt.”

I have been doing this renewal every morning:

“Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, I renew my consecration to you and to your Immaculate Heart. Please accept me, my dear Mother, and use me as you wish to accomplish your designs upon the world. I am all yours, my Mother, my Queen, and all that I have is yours.”

I never thought of doing the renewal before Communion. What a fantastic idea! 😃

At my parish, we are getting ready for Consecration to Mary using 33 Days to Morning Glory by Father Michael Gaitley. Although, not exclusively St Louis de Montfort’s method, it is partially based on de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary.

I do a shorter version before Communion, one of the following:
“I am all Thine, Lord Jesus, and all that I have is Thine, through Mary, Thy most holy mother;”
or,
“I am all thine, O Immaculate One, and all that I have is thine, now through eternity.”
 
Yes, the Consecration is made once from what I understand, and then renewed every year. I don’t see any sin in renewing on a different day than the original consecration, but then again I am not a priest.

My best advice is to take this matter up with your spiritual director or priest.
