Consecration of the City of Miami tonight!

It is my great joy to report that tonight, Thursday, May 30th, 2013 - “Vigil of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary” - at 7 PM (EST) the Most Reverend Thomas Wenski, Archbishop of Miami will offer a special Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Mary for the consecration of the City of Miami to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

At the Mass, organized by the Mission for the Love of God Worldwide and concelebrated with the Very Reverend Christopher Marino, Rector of the Cathedral, will also be present the Honorable Mayor of the City of Miami Tomás Regalado.

Miami is the 42nd largest city proper in the United States, and Miami’s metropolitan area is the eighth most populous and fourth-largest urban area in the United States. Internationally, Miami is numbered as an alpha global city. The Archidioecesis Miamiensis, under the patronage of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, is shepherded by the Archbishop along with 428 priests and 160 permanent deacons, joined by 50 religious brothers and 300 religious sisters for a Catholic population of 1,300,000 in 118 parishes and missions.

When we consecrate ourselves to God, a pact is established between the Father and His child. It is an act that will never be broken by God. It is a bond of love and protection. Consecration is the personal offering of ourselves and everything we have to God. The Consecration of the City of Miami is a historical event where Archbishop Thomas Wenski will place the city and its citizens into the loving hands of God.

The presence of this news in the media is quantifiable: 0. Google News has literally no results. So I went to the local news agencies: nothing on Miami Herald, Nuevo Herald, News 7, Local 10, NBC Miami, CBS Miami. How sad for them.

Google currently lists only a handful of websites mentioning this historical event: Miami Archdiocese, Servants of the Pierced Hearts, Mission for the Love of God Worldwide, Knights of Columbus, Miamiensis Latin Mass community, and Catholic Answers Forum 😃

It was quite an experience! The Cathedral was filled with faithful, but there were also priests, members of religious order, of chivalric orders, of lay confraternities. There was a Formula of Consecration read by the Archbishop and one read by the Mayor, right before the Final Blessing.

No, it was in the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite 🙂

However, the same Archbishop celebrated in February 2012 a Pontifical High Mass in the Extraordinary Form at the Cathedral, the first such Mass in over 40 years. The Rector of the Cathedral has also celebrated High Mass in the Extraordinary Form. There is an interest in promoting with harmony this treasure of the faith in the Archdiocese, and in October 2012 FSSP offered a free 4-day Low Mass workshop at a local Seminary.
 
Cool story. I wish something similar could be done for every Episcopal seat in the US.
