Consecration timing question

I’ve been considering consecrating myself to Jesus through Mary for the last few years now, but whenever I feel ready, it’s usually past the suggested date. So my question is how important is it that the consecration be on a Marian Feast day? Can you start it any day you want?

Anyone out there start on a random day?

I would encourage you to go ahead because you’ve been waiting long enough. My priest says you can do it at any time. And I believe it says in my copy of True Devotion that it can be done at any time, and that the suggested practices are not to be rigidly interpreted. In other words, don’t get too caught up in the details. The important thing is bringing yourself to Mary and depending on her for everything. If you want to renew your consecration on a particular feast day in addition, then you can do that. I think you can renew your consecration on any feast day you want. Or on every feast day if you wan.t But if you are in doubt, you can ask a priest.

My boook of True Devotion–edited by a Montfort father I believe, published by Tan–says that many of the faithful take three days each year to renew their consecration, and indicates that that’s fine.

I don’t want to get too legalistic here, but I was wondering if I could start it now and just renew it on another feast day within a year (such as Immaculate conception). It just seems like life keeps getting in the way and I keep missing the boat.

That’s what I was thinking. I think it’s a great idea. Then you could just keep renewing it on the feast day, such as the Immaculate Conception, if that’s what you pick–which would be great.

My impression is that some people use 33 Days to Morning Glory some years and the Preparation for Total Consecration booklet others years.

I like 33 Days to Morning Glory, but since the Association of Mary does not recognize this for entrance into the Association of Mary, I don’t use it anymore.

I suggest using the Preparation booklet consistently each year (and I’ve been reading a little from it each day to keep close to Our Lady).

If one wants to join the Association of Mary, as I understand it, one needs to use the Preparation Booklet or the similar prescriptions in the back of True Devotion to Mary. And if one wants to be a member, one must use the specific consecration formula given by St. Louis (which is in the Prepration Booklet and in the back of True Devotion.

So so summarize: I recommend using the Preparation For Total Consecration booklet every year. And also reading from True Devotion.

But if you have questions or are in doubt, you can also contact the Association of Mary for guidance too, as well as one’s priest. But again, it’s really all just about giving everything to Mary and receiving her completely in return.
