I’m thinking about doing the Marian consecration starting on April 10th but I don’t know which book to purchase. Any suggestions?

Dear Frugal,
The “gold standard” for me has been, a small book entitled “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary” by St. Louis de Montfort. I made my First Act of Consecration when I was a teenager, and our religion teacher, a Dominican nun, who also was the Spiritual Director of our Legion of Mary explained it to us.
Over many years I’ve read that same little book and each time I learn more.
You can read an online version of it HERE You may also buy an inexpensive paperback version on Amazon or order it at a local bookstore. See HERE
There are other books that some have found helpful such as "33 Days to Morning Glory" by Fr. Michael E. Gaitley, MIC. I read that book, and it is an “easy read” but it does not have the depth that I found in St. Louis de Montfort.
I would encourage you to read “True Devotion” slowly and prayerfully, asking the Holy Spirit to open the ears of your heart, to hear God’s Truth. If you begin to read and have questions please ask, and I’ll try to answer as best I can; but reading prayerfully and asking the Holy Spirit’s guidance and Mary’s intercession works wonders! May the Lord grant you all the graces you need to become totally His through Mary.

We can consecrate ourselves by simple prayers, please remember that when you are reading about time frames.

I agree. However I just did a retreat with Fr Gaitley & there is no doubt in my mind our Blessed Mother is using him today to build His Kingdom here on earth to prepare us for the next step.
I highly suggest Fr Michael Gaitley’s book, 33 Days to Morning Glory. He’s built (is building) a spirituality for lay folk, ties in Marian devotion, Divine Mercy, & St Therese’s little way into a simple easy to understand way of life.

FWIW, there are also a whole lot of YouTube videos, as well as free apps on Google play, which will walk you through it day-by-day… Just do a search for “Total Consecration to Mary”…

If I may, while I am very happy to be a consecrant, and I love the entire devotion, its a long prayer that can be sort of difficult to navigate at times… I mean, I’ve been through it several times, and I still get kind of lost in all the readings… My recommendation would be to keep it as simple as possible, so you dont get lost and feel despondent because you lost your place or something…
There’s lots of books and materials that directly address it, as well as supplementary materials, such as by Saint Pope John Paul II… St Louis’ “Totus Tuus” slogan was a big theme in his Papacy…

Just to add – if I may – that St. Louis’ words, “Totus Tuus” was St. John Paul II’s “papal motto”, thus far more than a slogan for him, and I believe those words mean more to you and me and many others. Those two Latin words are translated “ALL YOURS” and surely St. John Paul II and St. Louis de Montfort, spent their lives striving to be totally given to Jesus through Mary. Especially in the final years of both lives there was such an obvious “emptying of self” as Jesus emptied Himself in love on His Cross.
St. John Paul II wrote that his reading of St. Louis de Montfort’s "True Devotion" was a turning point in his young life. It certainly continues to be for me a great source of learning to love by the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus more through Mary, and love Mary more because of God’s great Love for her. I count it among the most important graces in my life, to have made my Act of Total Consecration and by Grace continually renewing it.
