Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.........how?

I am wanting to consecrated myself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus…how do I do this??? I have found the words to use but is a priest supposed to do this??? Sorry if its a dumb question, but I’m a new Catholic and I have just been drawn to this devotion ever since I made the decision to convert. It is such an important devotion for me to have…Thank you all SO much and God bless you!!!🙂
 
I think the Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart is something you can do individually. (Some parishes have a Holy Hour on the First Friday of each month where it is prayed publicly.)

Something else you may want to consider is Enthronement of the Sacred Heart in your home (some information can be found here sacredheartapostolate.com/SHA_Enthronements.htm ). If you are interested, ask your priest about it, and if he is not familiar with the procedure, he may be able to recommend another priest who is.
 
I talked to my priest about it and he told me who to talk to in the parish about first Fridays but he mentioned it was charismatic…I’ve been reading up on the devotion quite a bit and never heard of that…have you all???

First Friday devotion is certainly not Charismatic - where is he getting that from? Unless he means that it is hosted by the Charismatic group at your parish? But First Friday devotions have been going on for centuries.

What you do is you pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart, and you make your Nine First Fridays, by attending Mass on the first Friday of each month, and receive Holy Communion, for nine months consecutively. (I’ve been trying for four years now - something always gets in the way of my seventh or eighth First Friday, and I always have to start all over again.)

I think thats what he means…can I go to another closer parish to me that has it??? I’m not really into the whole charismatic thing…when I was going to the Baptist church growing up, I didnt like it then…

Certainly you can go to Mass at any parish. If you find that a Mass time is more convienient during the week, go where you are able. Certainly it wouldn’t hurt to go to the Friday Mass at your regular parish just to see what it is like. A Baptist charismatic and what happens at First Friday Mass might be worlds apart.
