Hello,
Today I went to mass and the priest slightly messed up the consecration. He said: “This is my-the chalice of my blood…” (the rest of the consecration was said correctly). Was the Mass still valid because the words communicated the correct meaning, even though there was a slight mistake?
Thank you all for your help and have Blessed Lent:irish3:

The Consecration was still valid. Mistakes happen, that’s the whole reason Christ came to us in the first place, so how a simple (and honest) mistake hold back Christ’s presence in the Eucharist?

Doesn’t significantly change meaning. It’s valid but not recommended.

In such an instance, it is better if we stop and begin again at the essential words; he had arrived at the essential words. In the moment, however, he may not have thought back to remember to do that. It would be like if, during the essential words of the formula of absolution, I suddenly had a sneezing or coughing fit before finishing. When I stopped sneezing, it would be most proper to back up to “I absolve you…” and then continue anew to the end of the formula.

All that said, the consecration of the Precious Blood would have still been valid and therefore the validity of this Mass would be unaffected.
