I am interested in which areas of the country follow Catholic teaching, as it is meant to be followed. — I know, unfortunately, in many areas it has been watered down, by secularism.

No need to be sorry–I just wanted to be clear what you were asking.

I don’t know that such a thing could be gaged according to geography. I think, from what I’ve read in the various fora here, that there are pockets of orthodoxy everywhere with pockets of less orthodox leanings alongside them. That’s certainly the case where I live, at any rate.

Well, by that definition, all areas fulfill that. What “is meant to be followed” varies by region and locality.

Using an “orthodox/hetrodox” terminology, I would probably say some rural areas of the “rust belt” (C/N WI, OH, MI, IL, IN) would lean more “orthodox” as a general rule but there are many local variations in those areas. They have the highest per capita Catholic population and are often served by more “orthodox Catholic” media outlets (e.g. Ave Maria radio, Relevant Radio, etc…). Even then just having those media outlets is no guarantee of the flavor of Catholicism being broadcast is the majority style in the listening areas.

That’s a tough one to answer. From what I’ve observed on here and other places, I’d say the southern states and parts of the midwest. These are areas I’ve met the most orthodox Catholics but that doesn’t mean there isn’t large pockets in other states. California has thier share of very orthodox Catholics but you would never know it the way people talk about us in here

It gets complicated because then we have to break down what you mean by conservative. I remember learning that Nebraska does not allow any female alter servers, for many that would be considered orthodox, others would say no

California has thier share of very orthodox Catholics but you would never know it the way people talk about us in here

For some reason, Catholic radio does not broadcast up and down the coast of California. If you want Catholic radio you need to subscribe. Sacramento has Catholic radio and a conservative bishop. San Jose on the other hand, is closer to the coast and is much more liberal. The San Jose cathedral doesn’t even have kneelers. There are a few parishes in the San Jose area that are conservative. It would be a good idea for the posters at Catholic Answers to compile a list of all the conservative/orthodox Catholic churches in America.
