I wasnt really sure where to post this, but having recently found a cool podcast called the “Catholic Insider” done by a Dutch priest (in English) I was amazed to find a whole website dedicated to Catholic podcasting. (initiated by him)

I URGE you to go ahead and check it out. Its amazing!!

If you have “itunes” you will know what a podcast is (basically a radio show that you can download and listen to whenever you want, on either your pc computer, mac, or an ipod, or other mp3 players). The podcasts are listed on the left of the webpage down the side.

This is a great tool for evangelisation. There are Catholic podcasts on Harry Potter, Pirates of the Carribean, even Catholic Rock music!! etc… Dont worry, there are also podcasts not focused on movies or films etc… such as Rosary Army or The SaintCast.

Go and check it out, there are all sorts of different podcasts by different people, but they are all Catholic.

Its an excellent way to introduce friends to the faith without being too “boring” 🙂

p.s One podcast currently not on the website is one called “Word on Fire” , you can find it by searching on the podcast section of itunes for “Word on Fire”. He is one almighty preacher, you can feel the Holy Spirit flowing through his words.
 
P.S. I think the bullet points at www.scripturecatholic.com were made for a tool like this. By themselves, the points at Scripture Catholic are helpful, but you’re always having to flip back to the verse to check it. With the split screen of Olive Tree’s software, all you have to do is check the split screen–the actual verse and his commentary on one page.

Man, I need a life…

Oddly enough, I just started a thread about podcasts, only to look up and see this sticky. Guess I should pay more attention 🙂

I started going throught the provided word document and checking against the bookmarks and notes and I see what you mean about some problems. But I am finding myself enjoying the process because it is forcing me to check the scriptural basis for the churches teachings.

Yeah, it can get tedious, but it’s a good learning experience. I’ve checked more than half of the topics in the Word document now, and I’m starting to realize that not all of the notes are helpful. So, by going through and reading each one and looking at them through the light of “on the street” experience, I can gauge what I think is really helpful before I c/p them.

If I use this PDA and Bible tool for any length of time, I can see myself filling up the remaining 20 MBs before too long. Lol.

Okay, having BEEN ACTUALLY PUBLISHED, no, it’s not the same thing.

Now, can we get back to the business at hand? That is, discussing techno-apologetics and perhaps later discussing why Battlestar Galactica obliterates every franchise of Star Trek on every level–WITHOUT resorting to bizarre make-up tricks…?

Another benefit that I am finding helpful is having multiple translations of the Bible right at my fingertips. I can easily switch over and compare how the translations differ or use the split screens to show two different bibles and the notes.

I think you can get the King James for free, right?

In the interest of saving space, I don’t think I’ll get another copy on there, though. My 512MB storage card just died (or the ability of my PDA to read it), and now I’m skeptical. Frequent backups are my way of keeping data secure…
 
I was just looking at the Olive Tree Desktop and they have a desktop assistant program that will allow you to edit notes and bookmarks on your PC. I will probably look at this when I get home tonight. It cost $7 but depending on how well it works, it would probably be worth it.

Oh, sweet, the Douay-Rheims is one of their free downloads. WITH the deuteros…
 
NRSV is $16.00 (includes deutero-cannonicals). (For some reason, they refuse to refer to it as the NRSV-CE . . . wonder why.)
