I’d be careful trying to lump all Protestants together. You’ve got to admit that at least one or two of them is sincere in their zeal for the Lord and His Word, the Bible.Catholics approach the Bible with more respect, in that we know not to misinterpret. Being intimidated is not a surprise, but there are guides. We should always read the CCC, which is the greatest companion to the Bible ever written.
The Protestants approach the Bible with arrogance, treating it as easy to understand, and as long as they can point back to something written in Scriptures which they can assign a meaning to… they believe they’re covered. No wonder they have zeal, as they’re creating their own religion. So, it’s a false zeal.
This kind of pigeon-holing people because of their denomination is what leads to false assumptions. For instance, some Protestants are equally guilty of assuming I worship Mary since I’m Catholic.
But knowing the truth and loving Christ are not the same thing. The more you know Christ, the more you are able to love Christ, but the two aren’t always in-sync.The true zeal comes in knowing Christ as He really is… no brothers and sisters by his mother, His mother as Queen of Heaven, knowing Christ’s doctrines which do not include salvation by faith alone, once saved always saved, or Bible alone as rule of faith. Unlike the Protestant arrogance, we must approach both God and His teachings with appropriate reverence and respect. We also have great zeal for Christ due to His seven Sacraments including the incomparable gift of Himself in the Most Holy Eucharist. God gave us an infallible teaching Church, so what is there to be intimidated about? It’s ignorance of this that keeps people from knowing truth.
Yes, thank God for giving us the Church - my signature tells you my thoughts on that.Honestly, if I were doing this on my own, I would be intimidated. Fortunately, God gave us the Church and has protected her from ever teaching error in faith and morals. This is a great comfort as I read Scriptures, knowing what the Church teaches on how to interpret them. We must have respect for Scriptures, and rely on the official Church teachings to know what they mean. Nothing intimidating about that, but greatly comforting.
I just don’t think that Catholics own a monopoly on loving Christ with all our hearts and souls. I continue to admire the love and self-giving that some of my Protestant friends have for the Lord!
