Tragic Ignorance isn’t the Seven Sorrows song that’s closest to heavy metal. Vengeance is the heavy Seven Sorrows song.

Also, if you go to Seven Sorrows’s website, towards the bottom of the music page, they mention a band called Disarm, which used to contain some of the members of Seven Sorrows. There are five songs that you can download there. The lyrics of these songs contain Catholic themes and the music seems to be closer to the style of music that you are looking for.
 
There is a Swedish band called Veni Domini which is power metal and which I think is Catholic, but I don’t know enough to say for certain.

There are three good Catholic hard rock/power metal/prog metal bands from Brazil, Eterna, Uniao and Apocalipse Prophecy.

Illuminandi is a Christian gothic metal/hard rock/metal band from Poland whose members are all Catholics.

Think I could get into Eterna… Uniao hmmm… I’ll have to hear more… they only have one studio instrumental mp3 on their site (that I could find)… No wait! There’s more… Okay… Just found *Scream on the Cross… *Well, I’ll let you know what I think… Ooo… now that’s nice…

I confess I’m not a big “metal” guy… But I did see Dream Theater this summer, and I like their instrumental side project, Liquid Tension Experiment… I’m more of a “progger”…

I’m sorry folks. You seem to be under the misconception that putting a few ‘Catholic’ lyrics to some piece of rock music or whatever passes for popular music somehow makes it Catholic. Heavy metal, rock and its variations have a certain effect and send a message to the listener which is anything but Catholic. It sends the message of rebellion, hedonism and idolotry of self. I experienced it and my whole generation. I have a brother whose life has been wrecked and continues to cause problems. The rock music helped set us up for problems. By the grace of God, I came out of it. I burned all my rock music and gave it all up in order to follow God. Since then I’ve discovered that music which is beautiful and true, both attributes of God which we should seek in all aspects of our life. I would suggest going to a well-celebrated Traditional high Mass for liturgical music. Then there is Bach, Mozart, Hendel, Hadyn, etc. I just heard Mendelsohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream in concert. It is not religious per se, but it is so beautiful.

Everyone should listen to Fr. Basil Nortz, ORC-(Opus Sanctorum Angelorum) series of talks, Music and Morality. www.opusangelorum.org email:opusagelorum@rc.net. I find his arguments hard to refute. He uses only statements from those who like and promote and play rock music to support his position.

I listen to alot of Christian rock and metal, but it’s all of the Protestant kind. I’ve honestly never heard of any Catholic bands- especially those for us metal heads!

Isn’t Seven Sorrows kind of a heavy metal or hard rock Catholic band? Theres also Skillet which is pretty heavy rock, but Im not sure if they are Catholic or Protestant. Seven Sorrows is not mainstream though and rely totally on donations while Skillet is more mainstream. I like them both.

I googled Seven Sorrows- sounds good. Skillet is ok, but yeah, they are Protestant. Nothing wrong with that, I am just trying to find some that are specifically Catholic. I dig Decyfer Down and Seventh Day Slumber, bands like that, but you almost wouldn’t know they are Christian- rarely do they mention Christ. Seems like bands try to be kind of ambiguous so they can get a larger audience. But if I’m listening to Christian music, it’s because I want to praise God, and it helps if the songs are actually doing that. One band that’s not afraid to say Jesus! is Disciple, they are pretty good.
 
ever hear of norma jean? i’m sure they are protestant but they are all about God.
 
I think Max from Soulfly writes some religious-themed songs. Might be a little too explicit on occasion, though. Demon Hunter is good.
 
I’m not sure if they really fit into the rock or heavy metal categories, but does anyone ever listen to Kutless? I totally love them, and some of their lyrics sound Catholic to me…but I can’t find any info. on that. I really like them either way, but I’m just wondering if anyone knows. 🙂

Oh, I totally dig Soulfly. I was a big Sepultura fan back in the day. They have some religious themed stuff, but almost Rasta in nature. Still a good band, though.
 
Is Norma Jean Catholic?

I am more into metal, but maybe you’d like Illuminandi and Eterna, both Catholic metal bands.
