Oooh, and another great artist who I just discovered- Francesca Battistelli. Her voice is beautiful, her songs are catchy, and she’s very Christian!

Those are two of my favorites, too, although Switchfoot no longer actually bills itself as a Christian band- it’s more profitable if you don’t mention Jesus. I’ve seen that with many Christian rock bands- they are ‘covert Christians’, who never mention Christ in their music. I know this because way back before I was into Christianity, I liked some bands that I never knew were Christian, and when I found out they were, I stopped buying their albums.

I haven’t seen it, but apparently on the back of their CD Storm the Gates of Hell, the members dress up like priests, I’m not sure what they mean by it though.

The Catholic metal bands that I think are pretty good are Eterna, Illuminandi, Metatrone, Rosa de Saron (not metal, but hard rock), Vulture of Corpse, Uniao and Apocalipse Prophecy. Vulture of Corpse probably needs to improve their vocals though. The Forty Holy Martyrs of Sebaste, Cavaleiros Consagrados, Beatrix and Pneuma aren’t too bad and a song from Last Rites is pretty good (“Virtual Flesh”).

They do have clerical collars on, but the sleeves are cut off. It’s sort of a strange depiction.

The best Chrisian(not Catholic unfortunately) band would have to be Stryper. Their stuff just rocks!!! Its a bit old. Its actually the first mainstream Christian band, but its as fun as anything. Check them out.

You could try Purple Radio. It’s hard rock & alternative music. Most of it isn’t my style but it’s pretty hard edged contemporary Christian. :cool:

I’m a heavy-duty Third Day fan! 👍 Although they are not a Catholic band, some of the lyrics in their music comes out in a Catholic way. (Example: Communion) They are probably more Catholic than they realize. They are not a metal band…that’s why I love them so much! In fact, I’m listening to them as I’m working on the internet.

Suffice to say they’re protestant, and I’m 99% sure they don’t grasp the significance of the vestments for Catholics.

Everyone looking for a Catholic rock band, I should point out there is a pretty good one called Critical Mass. Their album ‘Grasping for Hope in the Darkness’ is quite epic. Not well known outside Canada though. The lead singer is an amazing guy. He’s a robotics professor at my university, has NINE children, and hosts a rosary group at his home in addition to being in the band… now that’s a busy guy…
 
Hm. This is the thread I’ve been after.

I like heavy/death metal and fast, FAST (Dragonforce fast) Power. Some examples of the stuff I have at the moment:

-All that Remains
-Dragonforce
-Nightwish (I know ^_^")
-Rhapsody (of Fire)

I’ve taken some suggestions (Theocracy) but they’re a bit too slow/not as hard as i’d like. It’s very difficult to find Christian music for this subgenre that I like, so could somebody help?
 
For Christian Death Metal you want Extol and Aletheian for sure if you want the technical melodic stuff. You might also like Becoming the Archetype or Immortal Souls (BTA has some metalcore/prog metal influences, IS not as heavy as the others).

Power metal wise I don’t know much in the genre. I’m a big fan of Blind Guardian, and the new band Amberian Dawn (amazing female operatic vocals). These are both secular but with totally awesome and not offensive lyrics, unlike for example, Nightwish (no offense meant, I do like their music also). There’s also Narnia (a Christian band), who have some amazing chops, but are plagued with rather cheesy lyrics (then again, it’s power metal, so that’s somewhat allowed).

Yes I know of EXACTLY what you need. They are called E Nomine. I literally listened to nothing but Rammstein and E Nomine for five years. The lyrics of E Nomine are mostly in German (like Rammstein), with German voice actors so it sounds awesome, and there are also lots of Latin lyrics, in addition to the regular Latin chants. There are actually quite a few English songs too. Most of the songs are reworkings of Catholic themes (“Vater Unser”- the Our Father, and “Ave Maria”, for example), but then they do have a lot of music that is not Christian. In any case, check them out.
 
I love Christian hard rock and metalcore! It’s so hard to find bands that are Catholic, the only one I know of that might be Is Demon Hunter. Check out August Burns Red, not Catholic but they promote Christian ideas. I’d love to start a Catholic metal band but I don’t have any Catholic friends that can play instruments. 😦

Pretty sure Demon Hunter is protestant, sorry. I listen to a lot of Christian metal, but practically all of them are protestant. Same for August Burns Red, protestants, awesome band with great skills.

ps hardcore Catholic bassist/not so good guitarist here 😉
 
Yeah, Christian rock/metal seems more popular with Protestants. I’m learning guitar so me and my buddy who plays drums have covered some songs. Are you in a band?
