Not saying that all Traditionalists are monarchists of any stripe, but surely you’d be able to provide an opinion…

In theory, a constitutional monarchy seems more appealing than a republic. Yet, in practice, don’t most constitutional monarchies operate like parliamentary republics? And if so, how is a constitutional monarchy much different than a republic? 🤷

You generally don’t elect the monarch by democratic means, though even this is theoretically possible.

As to other differences I would imagine it would depend on the constitutions of the monarchy and republic in question.

I live in the UK and it took me a while to realize the advantages - mainly by looking at the alternatives. 🙂

With republics, in reality (rather than theoretical virtue) one ends up with a Head of State that half the population hates (like Americans or the French, for example) or some pensioned-off politician who has arrived at a condition of being ‘harmless’ enough to quietly cut ribbons and preside over official gatherings (like Germany, Italy and many others).

Meanwhile, Constitutional Monarchies provide a non-political Head of State, embodying tradition and unity (‘we’re all in this together’) and, of course, keeping the National Soap Opera out of hands of politicians to a much greater extent.
