Consumer Reports promotes Abortion in Feb.2005 Issue!

Sound The Alarms!!! Peace Be With You All! I Was Shocked and Appalled by The Feb.Issue of Consumer Reports Magazine.They Test The Best Condoms,Contraceptives,and Methods Of Abortion! Right Next To "How To Get Your Food ‘Crispier’ in The Microwave! I Thought They were supposed to be an “Unbiased” Group That Looked Out For the “Safety” Factor to “Protect” The American Consumer! THis Magazine Readership in Print is 5 Million! And 1Million online.I PRAY Anyone Who Reads This Will Help In Exposing This Scandelous Information to Everyone Who Might be Able to Help.I Am Only One Woman With out all the Resources many of you might have.Suggestions ,Addresses of Orginizations Ect. Would be Appreciated. I Want To Bring into the Light This Blatent Disregard For The “Safety” Of The Unborn By An Organization that Based It"s Foundation on The Publics Best Interest! Can You All Help! God Bless,Thanks!
 
Oddly my parents gave us a gift subscription to Consumer Reports and this was the first issue. One thing that caught my atention was what sounded disapproval over teh goverments warnings or suggestions of condoms preventing HIV. They talk about the effectiveness of condoms (I think), but somehow a virus smaller than sperm can’t pass through a condom?

I haven’t had a chance to see if they even mention NFP. Not very encompassing.

I’ve found CR to be good at cars and blenders and maybe TVs, but outside of that, CR gets all mixed up.

From what I read, I think they only tested the condoms. And that test was simply done by inflating them with certain quantities of air to see if they broke.

The Planned Parenthood condoms were the worst ones tested and had a much lower reliability than the condom brands generally available in stores such as Walmart, etc. With Planned Parenthood giving away poor condoms, I suppose some additional abortions result. I think this is scandalous as well.

There is a section about the abortion pill and other abortion procedures. I did suppose that the whole article was going to upset some Catholics and Jews. And perhaps others as well.

I don’t think Consumers Reports was endorsing abortion. I don’t recall any direct mention of morality in their article. I do suppose that they will get substantial mail.

Editorially: I suppose that there should have been at least some brief statement – “Couples should find out what birth control options are consistent with their religious beliefs or with their place of worship before actually making such decisions for themselves.” The absense of such a statement does make it appear that all of these things are OK. And there is no mention of psychological side effects. Many more serious side effects of vacuum aspiration are simply not mentioned at all.

And a statement could have been added at the front of the article such as “Birth control and abortion are controversial subjects in our time. We do not intend to offend anyone. If you are offended by such topics, you may prefer not to read this article. This article is intended to educate those who are not offended so that they may make better decisions for themselves.”

In the Article The magazine Misleads And Does indeed advise and direct the reader with advice on how one should contact “Planned Parenthood” And How To Obtain The “Samples Of Birth Control” And How To Obtain these “Services” Here My Voice Crying in The Wilderness! Birth Control Pills are abortifaciants! They Kill Babies!!! This Is not An Innocuous,Unbiased “Report” This Is Alarming To All Humans! The Lies Are To Numerous To Count!!! Jesus,Have Mercy on Me A Sinner! Danger!Stay Alert,The Roaming Lion Is Prowling,Seeking To DEVOUR! This is no Time For Complacency.Sitting on the fence.What Did Our Lord Say"Be That You Were Hot Or Cold!" Peace be with you.

Mercy7, I hope you take this in the spirit in which it’s intended; I certainly am not trying to offend you, but I think you need to get a grip on yourself. Your writing makes you sound like you’re running around like a decapitated chicken; I was tempted to blow you off as some sort of paranoid-schizophrenic nutcase, but I think you have a bit more zeal than is good for your decorum.

Now, listen closely: CU is a product-testing organization - they’re not in our moral realm, and trying to force them not to review a product that’s for sale to the public (in this case, condoms) simply because it offends our religious sensibilities is bizarre, to put it mildly.

Do you think that American Jews or Muslims would be mortally offended if they reviewed canned hams? Or that Baptists would be up in arms if they reviewed Scotch whiskey? Shouldn’t PETA march on their offices if they reviewed hamburger restaurants?

I used to work in a pharmacy; I know that there are people who have no objection to contraception and who prefer to use condoms for that purpose. Some of these people (or their partners) are allergic to latex, or to spermicidal lubricants; they need to be warned about condoms that could hurt them.

One of the pharmacies in our area has a Catholic pharmacist running things; it’s one of the big national chains, so he doesn’t choose the inventory like my boss did. (Ours was a small, private pharmacy.) He doesn’t approve of contraception, but he has to fill prescriptions for birth-control pills regularly; when patients ask questions about how they work and when they should be taken, he’s required to answer their questions no matter how he feels about the subject. It’s his oathbound duty - not as an employee, but as a pharmacist - to provide accurate, impartial information about the products he sells.

With regard to abortion and abortifacients - sure, we find it abhorrent; many do not. I didn’t read the article, so I don’t know what was said. Would you be as upset if the article covered vasectomy? Or tubal ligation?

I hope I never find myself in the position of needing to find a physician who can skillfully and competently perform an abortion; pray God that if I do, it’s because my wife is miscarrying anyway and the procedure is necessary to save her life, even if the child is beyond medical rescue. But if that sad occasion ever does come to pass, I want the best MD I can find to do it; if Consumer Reports has a list of the best doctors for the procedure in my area, or if they can tell me how to find one quickly, I want that information.

To all others reading this thread: before you start forwarding copies of these messages to all and sundry, you’d better get a copy of the CU report that contains this information and read it carefully. If what Mercy7 says turns out to be bogus (and I’m not implying that it is), you could be held liable for libel.

Get a grip, get the report, get the facts; make sure you’re right, then go right ahead.

And Mercy7 - invest in a word-processing program with a spelling, grammar and style checker, then type your posts offline and paste them into the text window before you embarrass yourself any further.
 
The New Zealand govt last year spent 21 million on abortion and promoting abortion.

Doesn’t seem like a lot? Take into account NZ’s populace is only 4 million. And that 21 mil comes out of the tax payer’s pocket. AND abortion on demand is supposed to be illegal.

Basically, in NZ, the govt will pay for your abortion & they cost about a thousand bucks a pop.
 
As dispicable as it is, at least they’ve painted abortion in its correct light. It’s not a service for women, it’s a major moneymaker, a business, and women are not women, they are consumers. I am not all that shocked. I wonder what PPFA’s reaction is?

Your post lacks both facts and tact.

Perhaps you should invest in some compassion, kindness and Christian charity before you embarass yourself further.

There were three distinct articles and one informational table.

1st - “Condoms Extra Protection” with a colour photograph of condoms (not packaged).

2nd - “Birth Control More & Safer Choices” which included a section subtitled “Help in Emergencies” which advises one on how to get the best results from the so-called “morning after pill”.

3rd - A table titled “Your Comparative Guide to Contraceptives” which includes all forms of contraception. Though it inaccurately lumps all forms of Natural Family Planning into the category of “Rhythm Method” and inaccurately lists the failure rate as “1 - 9 % if used perfectly; 25% if used typically”.

4th - A side bar article titled “Abortion Options” listing the comparative risks of drug induced abortions vs surgical abortion.

As a long time subscriber to CU I was offend to find photographs of condoms - as my daughter regularly reads the comparison charts for the cars, microwaves, stoves, etc and proudly reports to me which brand we should be buying.

I would have been very upset if my daughter had read the magazine before I was able to toss it.

I was offended at the blantant and unapologetic presentation of abortion as contraception (the morning after pill is after all an abortificant).

I was offended to see NFP so blatantly misrepresented.

I have cancelled my subscription to CU and I have told them exactly why.

I can’t tell you how much I hope that my post meets your exacting criteria, rcwhiteh, for both knowledge of the subject matter (as I have read all of the articles and tables) as well as punctuation, grammar and spelling.

Though I believe I know now why I don’t post here often. If this is the type of welcome one can expect I am surprised that anyone posts here. The majority of us being so far less than perfect.
 
Its a secular magazine, though I am surprised at their abortion info…but I think they also did a good service…albeit, probably inadvertantly…they tested condoms and showed Planned Parenthoods to be the worst…which FURTHER proves to me this demonic organization is ALL ABOUT the continuation of propagating ABORTION…yep…I accuse PH, of WANTING women to get pregnant just so they WILL seek out an abortion.

Is the rubber of condoms good for my slingshot? a year ago one of my classmates brought one back from an abortion/ABC promotion meeting and we filled it with water to make a really large “balloon”
 
Thank you for the link to make comments to Consumer Reports. I just emailed my comment.

I am glad to see that they proved what was long suspected…that Planned Parenthood intentionally gives out inferior and unreliable contraceptives so that when there is an unplanned pregnancy, they can get the abortion business…the real money maker for them, the largest abortion provider in our country.

I have written my letter and sent up my prayers.I realize the real culprit in this.We Humans are always the puppets when we give our will over to the evil one.Its a shame in this day and age that so few really believe in The Devil.Its a pity how many scoff at the very real presence of The Evil ones who are doing battle over our souls .The Evidence is so clear.The Lord Is Mightier Through it all and will Prevail.Our Lady will Indeed crush the head of Satan.Pray the Memorare!
